Cute video. I thought the caption for the picture was funny, in that it listed Zenyatta in the left-to-right of who's who. As if anyone reading that article wouldn't know which one was Zenyatta in the picture.

That's an intermediate phase. Grays all eventually turn white (Hansen's just unusually young to be mostly whited out.)

I'm watching the Blue Grass right now and when Dr. Hansen said how everyone loved a white horse me and my brother instantly IM'd each other. Him: "Until you have to clean one." Me: "Until you own one and it rolls in poop." Every time I get bored of every single horse and pony I've had being a solid bay I look at the two piebalds at the barn and the grass and manure stains ground into the white and remind myself bay isn't so bad!

ETA: Hansen lead almost all the way and got picked off by Doullahan in the last eighth (he went from tenth to first in the last three-eighths.)

I don't think that Hansen was ever a gun-metal gray. The pictures I have seen of him as a foal show him as a very pale roan with a bright red mane.

On a related note, yesterday morning I met Peppers Pride, who had a 19 race win streak as well, in restricted New Mexico racing. She is a sweetheart and stood patiently, regarding me with a kind eye and a touch of "gimmee!" if I took too long breaking her cookie in half. (She likes them broken in pieces for her. ) Her boy, about a 2 month old colt, was less patient and would periodically dance around. He did not want me to pet him but sniffed my hand very curiously and then thought maybe he should taste me. I told him no, he couldn't chomp down on my hand. Kids. Anyway, it was exciting to meet her and get my picture taken with the two of them, and pet her on the nose.

They told me Distorted Humor is the sire. The colt is a feisty little guy and very cute. I could hardly blame him for being antsy since they would be turned out after their photo op with me.

I need to write the owner(s) a thank you note for allowing me to see her. It's nice of them to allow a total stranger to visit their prize mare.
