I'm wondering if anyone here has ever lived in or spent any significant amount of time in Sao Paulo.
Long story, but we may have to move there for several months. I've never been and I've heard some really iffy things about Brazil (more so about the rurals areas). Is Sao Paulo safe? Can you get by without speaking Portuguese? We have a toddler and I would be spending a lot of time on my own most of each week while my husband travels to Northern Brazil in the Amazon ().
Any comments would be appreciated!

You might want to get involved in an expat group before and when you get there - I don't know anything about this group, but it was the first thing that turned up on Google - http://www.internations.org/sao-paulo-expats/canadians
