    2012-2013/14 Short Dance News

The Juniors can include Hip Hop in their SD's as indicated in the IceNetwork article below. The skaters have to check the lyrics for obscenities...can't wait for that!

For the Seniors, the Yankee Polka can be combined with any style of Polka, March or Waltz rhythm

The 2013/2014 senior dance is the Finnstep.

Any chance you can edit "Short Dance" into your thread title?

    ETA: Thanks for doing it!

I've only seen one skater manage to do hip hop on ice well - Daisuke Takahashi. The others I've seen haven't just been bad, they've been awful. This should be... interesting.

If anyone's seen any actual good hip hop on ice, and could provide a link, I'd be grateful. Because most of the stuff I've seen has been horrible.

Interesting - thanks for the information.
What the hell is a Ninja Twizzle? Does it have anything to do with hard shelled aquatic life forms that live in the sewer?

Looking forward to lots of music deductions.

Although how do they handle the use of the word "pussy" in a hip hop song?

Only allowed if skaters are costumed as Cats.

I don't know which will be more campy: Junior doing hip-hop or Seniors doing polka.

Sounds horrendous. And yet, I am disappointed it's just juniors.

Waltz is an option next year again? Hopefully the dances will evoke the "Memories of a Grand Ball" OD from 2003, which I loved (I know that's an unpopular opinion).

Finnstep for the Olympics sounds decent.

So will we get any comments that these dances were chosen to favor Davis & White, like when some people thought the choice of tango in Vancouver was rigged for DomShabs?

    This is perfect news.

Hiphop, swing and blues for juniors next season?

And Yankee Polka for seniors AND then Finnstep for the Olympic season? Absolutely perfect.

The only was the part about waltz going together with Yankee Polka. I pray most teams will just stick with the polka.

    Spoiler

[cut for profanity, but man, that thing suck... erm, was not very good. And I like Max and Nora. But oy. There was no hip in that hip hop.]

I'll throw my support behind any team that does "My Neck, My Back", or anything by 2 Live Crew. Bonus points if they do Riskay's "Smell Yo ****".

I wish someone would have the guts. Give it to the seniors and a team ready to retire should do something 'proper' all season and show up at Worlds and.......that would be 'gold'!
