American Idol - Top 12 (13?) Women (Wednesday February 29th)

So nothing was mentioned last night about there being an extra female added to tonight's show, right? Does anyone know why they did this with the men (if they're not also doing it with the women)? I could see if Jermaine was 28 and this was his last chance. But I think he's only 23? There was one woman who got cut (that I thought was really great) who said when she left, "that's it for me...I'm 28 and this was my last chance".

A few song spoilers from mjsbigblog.com:

    Spoiler

Really, Brielle? (And you had my hopes after doing a great version of Killing Me Softly.)

P.S. The poll results are not private this time. We will all know who votes before they have heard everyone sing.

ETA: I've added "Mystery Girl #13" to Chelsea Sorrell's poll option as Chelsea is the one I remember the least about...
It's official. I am madly in love with Meryl Davis.

Reflection is a horrible song to sing on this show. It never goes well. It always comes across pageantry.

Can these people (both boys & girls) refuse a song? I thought they liked Hollie but this song choice is the kiss of death.

Some of these songs choices may have been welcomed by the contestants. Some of the contestants reportedly have sung some of these songs in the past, presumably by their own choice.

I read somewhere that for this first round, each singer gave the producers a list of songs to sing. Then the producers chose one song from each list for that singer. Not sure how much of that has to do with clearance issues and how much is strategy on the part of the producers. Either way, the songs everyone is singing is a song they did pick for themselves.

Chelsea Sorrell up first with Underwood's "Cowboy Casanova."

ETA: Weak vocal, pitch all over the place. She sucked, Randy. No need to try to blame it on Carrie Underwood.

Oh my god, I hope Carrie Underwood is not listening. She's probably in tears, and I do not want Carrie to be crying!

Nice voice on girl in sparkly dress. But I don't want to watch Country Teen Idol again.

Christina Applegate Erika Van Pelt with hands-down a better performance than the entire group of guys combined.

ETA: Although kyle above doesn't agree with me

Erika Van Pelt "What About Love." This doesn't suck but that's the best thing I can say. Is it me, or are all the arrangements this season more like lame karaoke than usual. It's hurting the singers.

did they do away with the live musicians?

it all sounds like it is coming from the bottom of a soup can
I feel like I'm in a dream. But it can't be a dream because there are no boy dancers!

Erika didn't suck and a whole lot better than the guys, but not outstanding

This song is all kinds of wrong... She's got an okay voice, but nothing spectacular.

This lady is one of the few folks I remembered from the auditions. I had high hopes. I am disappointed. What a draggy mess.
