Thanks for posting this. I have a copy of "A Long Way Up". Jill was a remarkable woman who accomplished so much despite the severity of her injury.
When I'm old, I don't want them to say of me, "She's so charming." I want them to say, "Be careful, I think she's armed."

During a bout of unemployment years ago I read TOSOTM to help prevent a pity party. I was struck by the restraint in the book - she never revealed self-pity herself. I wondered at the time if this reflected her actual reaction, or a more-restrained appoach to memoir than our current let-it-all-hang-out emotionality in memoirs, or the approach of her co-author.
She did so much with her life.
I was also impressed by the bracing reaction of her fellow skier Andrea Mead Lawrence, who flatly asked her "what's wrong with you?!" when Jill wasn't doing her best to begin doing things for herself.
An inspiring book & life.

In reading about her life these past couple of days, I was surprised to learn that apparently some schools in California refused to hire her as a teacher because of her condition. This was years ago, but it still surprised me.
She really was an amazing woman.

I remember seeing Window To The Sky (The Other Side of The Mountain's release name in Australia) back in the mid 70s when I went to the movies.
Great film.
