Never! Each winner, or someone else, deserved her win over Meryl

1995 was such a strong year though. You had Susan Sarandon in Dead Man Walking, Elizabeth Shue in Leaving Las Vegas, Sharon Stone in Casino, Emma Thompson in Sense and Sensibility, and Meryl Streep who was surprisingly great in a surprisingly good adaptation of Bridges of Madison County (I think it was the last Eastwood-directed film to use color, ). Even if you would take someone out for Kidman, it's not as if the other women didn't give award-worthy performances.
ETA: I forgot to mention another brilliant performance that wasn't nominated that year was Jennifer Jason Leigh in Georgia. Mare Winningham, who played her sister and was nominated that year for Best Supporting Actress, said during the nominees luncheon, Meryl Streep pulled her aside and said "Jennifer should be here!" Also, when Elizabeth Shue won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Actress that year, she dedicated her award to Leigh.

I'm not a fan of Streep. Jennifer Jason Leigh is amazing however.
Totally agree about Jason Leigh. She would have been my 2nd choice for the Oscar that year.
I thought Shue was majorly robbed for Leaving Las Vegas. The performance was insane. Not to mention I have been a HUGE fan since I was a weeee gay boy who was completely obsessed with Adventures in Babysitting. I wanted to be her!!!!
