Headed to Colorado tomorrow! So excited to see Meryl and Charlie live again. I won't be staying at the hotel but I'll send any reports from the rink at least for the SD. won't be at the FD but oh well, I'll take what I can get! Wishing nothing but the best for Meryl and Charlie!

His father is also Charles White. I forget if they have the same middle names.

Technically, Chuck or Charlie for Charles, Johnny or Jack for John, or Ricky or Dick for Richard are not nicknames, they are diminutives. They are found in lots of languages. At the moment, I can't think of a skater who is known by a nickname.

Yeah, that's what I meant. Just didn't know the word "diminutive" in English before I guess I have to look things up in a dictionary before I post more often

Also, I am completely aware that you can find diminutives in many languages, but American skaters seem to be the only ones who use them officially in competition (for the lack of a better term I named it their "stage names").

It's certainly not a new thing in US figure skating:

    Dick Button
    Peggy Fleming
    Johnny Johns
    John Misha Petkevich

No, no. For someone working in a second language , you do terrifically well. Please don't let me slow you down.

I can't think of any. We used to sometimes hear commentators talk about Zhulin as Sasha, but in the paperwork, he was always Alexander.

Oh, I've forgotten "Pasha" Grischuk. What was that?

There was a post awhile back about someone suggesting that Meryl and Charlie could do a great FD to Sweeney Todd.

I found this picture of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter in an appropriate waltz hold. I think Meryl and Charlie could definitely look the part.

Lol. That would be me. And I still think it would be awesome. Although they CANNOT use Helena Bonam Carter's vocals. That constitutes cruel and unusual punishment.

Oh, that would just make me the happiest. They could do WONDERFUL things with Sweeney Todd. They have just the right amount of clever and punch in their skating.

Meryl with crazy hair? Oh yeah I'd love to see that!!

Isn't there a Sr. Dance team doing a Sweeney Todd program this season? For some reason I think it could be a Cannuscio...

Has anyone found video of Meryl and Charlie being awarded the Reader's Choice Award at Nats?
I'm going to twizzle into a triple axel and spiral out of it.

The IN version of the gala is now up on icenetwork. There's some extensive cute silliness with an announcer before their Adele performance that wasn't shown on NBC.

Are you going to the SD warmup? I'm getting into CO late Friday night, so Saturday morning will be my first appearance at the arena.

    Very cute!!

I love the Adele exhibition. I just wish the audio and video was synched up better. I noticed particularly with the singles doing jumps that the audience was applauding as they were taking off.

Did I miss Meryl and Charlie receiving their award? I did fast forward through some performances.

That's at 8:10 am right? At the main rink? Is it open to public, I'm not sure how that works! I'll plan to be there.
