All that does is tell me that the top ladies better watch out when the next crop of juniors hits the senior ladies scene. Several of the young Russian ladies also have correct flips and correct lutzes.

I refuse to think that to be a "top lady" one must either lip, flutz, or be incompetent at one or more of the other triple jumps, minus the axel.

That is not true of the juniors, nor was it true of top ladies in the past.

Well, this is understandable since they came up under the new rules that penalize such faults...right?

Does anyone think Gao or Lam can medal at JW? Slash where do people think they'll place? Lam did beat Li at one of her JGPs and Li almost beat Sotnikova at the YOG (did beat her in the FS), and if Gao can hit her 3-3 in the SP and then skate like she did at Nationals in the FS, I can see her beating the likes of Shelepen and Sotnikova if Sotnikova has an off-night like she seems to have a lot of this season. Idk. Thoughts? My guess is Christina will probably end up 4th or 5th and Lam maybe 6th-10th.

Christina seems to be, relatively speaking, in somewhat of a rut, if Nationals is any indication. My guess is that her growth spurt has really affected the consistency of her jumps. I wonder if it will take one more year for her to accomodate and start to reach her full potential. Thoughts?

Christina scored 111+ for her FS at US nats after completely missing her intended 3-jump combo when she messily doubled the salchow that was supposed to be the first jump in the combination. I wouldn't call that a rut, I mean she hit her 3f-3t beautifully in the FS and her 2a seems a little better. And her FS score and components (56+) were quite good. She was struggling earlier in the season because she couldn't jump all summer due to a hip injury and then had a virus later on in the season. If nationals is any indication, she is back on track. And switching back to her old SP was a good move IMO, the Celine Dion one did not work for her. Did people really think she skated poorly at nats? I found her FS there to be a bit of a triumph after her rough fall season.

I know. I was mostly thinking of the top ladies this season. Not claiming it is isn't possible, just that it won't really factor at this years worlds.

Some people would argue Lulu had a slight lip, but I never saw it.

Kerrigan and Baiul both had lips.

Bonaly had correct edges on her lutzes and flips, much to the surprise of many people's criticisms about her skating, lol. Although she did very rarely lip, but most of the time her flips were on the right edge.

And, lest we forget, Rachael Flatt managed a clean 3Lz and a clean 3F combination at Nationals.

So it is not impossible for US ladies to do jumps off correct edges.

Rachael, of course, is done for the season, but Gracie still has Junior Worlds.

And, again, not to mention Tonya Harding and Kristi Yamaguchi.
    Kristi had a minor flutz.

Yes, I believe Phillip Mills went from being a gymnast to a ballet dancer (trained at the ABT) and then got into figure skating choreography when his wife a former ballerina was asked to choreograph ballet moves for skaters.

Nice video of how they work together on the Black Swan program. It's cute at the end too when they get back to the room to find the dog had chewed her friend's sneaker. I think maybe the dog first wants them to throw it (my black lab would), then realizes uh-oh.

    Has anyone seen this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnoKr...eature=related

Her spins are amazing! They're almost as fast as Lipnitskaia's!

The jumps, though need a little bit of work...

    Karen Chen

She also did triple jumps while holding 2 huge Chinese fans (furled while she was actually in the air) in her exhibition. It is one of the most amazing exhibitions I've ever seen.

Wow, such a lovely little girl that Karen Chen and she skates with so much freedom of movement and confidence for her very young age. Is she the sister of Nathan Chen?

Chen is one of the most common Chinese last names. No, Nathan and Karen are not related.

Karen Chen turned 12 this past August so is not JGP age-eligible next season (if she were age-eligible then she, as novice champ, most likely would have gotten a spring developmental assignment this year, like Nathan Chen finally did).
