Gary Carter.: So young. My husband knew him when he was the manager of the minor league St Lucie Mets and I met him a couple of times. From the first time we met he never forgot my name even when I didn't see him for weeks - charismatic, kind and a champion ball player. RIP, Gary.

I'm surprised he lasted this long after that last update the Family gave to the Public a couple of weeks ago. After I heard about it and that not only had the original tumour not responded to treatment, but that two others had been discovered on the latest scan, I knew Gary didn't have much longer w/his Family and friends.
I have never heard anything bad about Gary from either the Press or those who were lucky enough to have met him. From all accounts, he was one of the really good guys in Baseball.
Gone far too soon and will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.![]()
Spring training has always been a harbinger of spring to me. I was a huge baseball fan while growing up in the 70s and throughout the 80s. Then I moved to a town that was a 3 hour drive from the nearest Major League ballpark. Sadly, I got out of the habit of following the game. Now that I'm, once again, living in a Major League city, I'm looking forward to this coming season. I plan on following the local team and attending a few games.
I just got back into it last year! (the steroid crap chased me away....then I saw The Beard.)
I hope there is lots of babbling in this thread...so much cool stuff happening this year, I hope.![]()

An MLB.com reporter asked what one thing Votto couldn’t do. “I can’t skate or play hockey,” Votto said. “Well, I can skate ... but I can’t stop.”

Phillies reported today. #winning
A friend and I got tix tonight to see them in Baltimore, and we're also hoping to go to a game in DC. I haven't been to either park, and I love road trips. Also hope to see them at home at least once.
And if I'm lucky, I'll see a Japanese baseball game this spring, too.![]()
I believe two teams who are opening the season in Japan reported last week.![]()
Snot.![]()
BTW-Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore is a gorgeous ballpark and I know you're going to have a blast there. Take some pictures there for me if you don't mind!
The Reds pitchers and catchers are working out as I type this and I cannot wait for all the news to start trickling out of Arizona. I just feel like this is going to be a special year for my guys and I cannot wait to go to my first game in April. WOO HOO BASEBALL!!!![]()

Am I talking to myself in here?
Ryan Braun's suspension was overturned. I hope that was the right decision.
Vogy's injury isn't a good sign for him, but the team is fine. Pablo came back from Venezuela crushing the ball, our young SS Brandon Crawford looks like a hitter now, Buster is looking great, plus we have 3 decent hitters fighting for the 1B job. And it's spring, everyone is in first place!
But now Timmy is sore, too.
Though apparently my bearded husband is throwing well and without pain.![]()

Yeah, I feel the same way. He may find this season to be more trying than he anticipated because the doubts about his actual test are still there even though he won the case.
All my Reds are in Arizona now and Joey Votto is all ready sporting his stubbly, smoking hot look that is usually reserved for later in the season. Yum....![]()

I put that guy on my fantasy team, Heather. He better not mess it up.

Aww, I knew you were a smart one! He's been on my fantasy team for the last three years and he's never let me down so I think you'll be happy with him. Who else did you get for your team? I didn't know anyone else here was playing so I'm excited to have a fantasy baseball person to talk to this season.

I mainly just pick players I like. But I needed a first baseman, and I remembered you babbling about him, so I picked him.
