    Best spirals in pairs skating

Since we have threads on spirals by ladies and men, I am adding pairs. It looks very good when both skaters have excellent stretch, lines, positions, and they are skating very close (unless it's a spiral sequence).

A spiral sequence is more common these days, but in the old days two pairs had the most beautiful pairs spirals- simple but perfect.

The Protopopovs: eligible and pro (the one that stood out for me was the one in Ave Maria- at 3:10)

Gordeeva-Grinkov: eligible and pro (the one etched in my memory is from Moonlight Sonata, at 2:25)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pY7HFPSmx8M

Berezhnaya-Sikharulidze: Not as perfect/close position as the other two, but I loved it that they followed it by a throw triple loop (at 0:40).

They had a spiral sequence in their Happy Valley SP (at 2:21) which was good, but it was somewhat criticized by Dick Button.

Of the current American teams Donlan and Speroff have beautiful spirals which are highlighted at the end of their long program.

Yup. I was just going to say that. They have breathtaking spirals, and never get high enough GOE for it, IMO.

a bit OT, but that gave me the opportunity to review katia and ludmila on how they express with their arms. while ludmila is undeniably graceful, she doesnt move or express from her core the way katia does, thus making ludmila look stiffer than katia. i yet have to see another female pairsskater who completely and gracefully expresses her arms from her core as much as katia does. i wish katia could train liza that way.

i think between the current top two pairs, v/t have more classic lines in their spirals, while s/s tend to do more creative positions.

K/S have the best spiral this season with S/S a close second. V/T have got the lowest scores for their spirals out of the three.

    I agree with D/S.

Smirnov has a very good spiral position- nice stretch for a man. I never cared for the catch foot spiral (singles or pairs). I like the classic spiral position.

I don't know of a Canadian pair with a Japanese lady, but I do know of a Japanese pair with a Canadian man, who have very nice spirals! Are you thinking of Narumi Takahashi and Mervin Tran?

No, I was thinking of a pair that skated about 10 years ago. I think he had a French name (I know that doesn't narrow it down in Canada).

Takahashi-Tran are very recent. I think I know who the poster is referring to.

    ETA:

It was Wakamatsu & Fecteau. Here is the info on Wakamatsu.

Here is a link of their skating (2005 LP)

I loved this one : Savchenko&Szolkowy 2007 Euros LP , when she ends on her back.

This one is the most touching one, ever : G&G 1994 Olys Ex . When she sleeps on her back : so light, so easy.

I loved both of those pairs. It's a pity that neither won an Olympic medal.
