I have always loved The Kennedy Center Honors show. I wish a skater would win one someday.

Can't wait to see this. It's become one of our late December traditions.

Come to think of it, I don't know why one hasn't yet. Don't they sometimes give them to athletes?

No, at least not so far.

The Kennedy Center Honors is an annual honor given to those in the performing arts for their lifetime of contributions to American culture.
    There's over 150 + honorees here.

Holy moly. I had heard that Glenn Close could sing, but I didn't know she was that good!

    Absolutely stunning performance.
Give me one more quiet night, before this loud morning gets it right, and does me in.

I watched this last night, and it was wonderful. The Meryl Streep tribute was nice, but I looooved the Yo-Yo Ma portion. All of the chamber music was beautiful and Stephen Colbert was funny too (and yay that YYM got the pimp spot and he got to sit next to Michelle Obama!)

There is a "connection" between three of last night's honorees.
Meryl Streep, YoYo Ma. and Steven Colbert were all profiled on Dr. Henry Louis Gates' "Faces of America" last year.
That could be why he did the segment for Ma.

I loved the Barbara Cook and YoYo Ma tributes. To see all of those Broadway "divas" together honoring Cook was moving. And Ma's tribute was pitch perfect---it is not just that he is a brilliant cellist---it is his adventurous spirit. Of course I don't see him riding his cello over the falls anytime soon. (Colbert was funny and I think he should host the Oscars sometime.)

Wow, Glenn Close and Patti Lupone on the same stage together . I wonder if Pati still has any grudges against Glenn for taking the lead in Sunset.

Anne Hatheway sounded great. Can't wait to see her in Les Mis.

I watched it last night as well. Great great show. Loved the Yo-Yo ma and Meryl Streep bits the most.

Read Patti LuPone's auto-biography. The answer would be yes. I don't think she's overly fond of Streep either, based on that book. Of course Andrew Lloyd Webber gets the biggest bashing.
I meant to take the high road.... but I missed the exit.

If anyone can find a link to the Yo Yo Ma tribute, please post it or PM me. I'd love to see it!
