Yes, we did. You know, they have two new(er) holiday albums out, by the current line-up. If you go to the music page of their on-line store and scroll down, you'll find them.

Hard to believe next year is the 55th anniversary of the group's founding and, unlike a lot of "retro" groups, the KT is completely under the control and oversight of the only surviving original member. He owns the rights to just about everything Trio-related except the music they put out on Capitol and Decca back in the '50's and 60's.

Just rememberd another one: KT Tunstall's Have Yourself a Very KT Christmas EP. Includes probably my favourite version ever of "Mele Kalikimaka" (who doesn't love a kazooo band?), and her "Fairy Tale of New York" is the only version other than the original that I like. Possibly even more than The Pogues, just because KT and Ed Harcourt can actually enunciate!

It's that time of year again! I'm already stocking up on new holiday music, and last year I got so many great suggestions on this thread that I'm bringing it back.

I didn't buy Michael Buble, but one of the highlights of last year's holiday tv season had to be his appearance on SNL, where he good naturedly parodied himself with Jimmy Fallon doing the duets as Sting, Bieber, Lady Gaga and more. Unfortunately, the diligent folks at NBC have scrubbed youtube nearly clean, and don't like to play sharsies with Canadians, but I think this might be it for Americans: http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/buble-duets/1374390/

This year I'm looking for anything new, and anything obscure - people one might not have known made a holiday CD, oldies, rarities and super cheesy. I am very tempted by this.

Any ideas??

Haven't read the whole thread, but the Johnny Mathis Christmas album released years ago is wonderful. Don't even remember the title, but the album cover showed him with some skis, I think. I was just a kid, and I think it's the first time I ever heard "The Christmas Song."

The Christmas Revels! I have "Christmas Day in the Morning". It's festive choral music, with a few things you know and lots you don't. Love listening to it while doing holiday cooking.

And their live shows (which consist of song/dance/a loosely plotted play) are so much fun. I went for the first time last year. They're in a few US cities - definitely check it out if you can.

Maddy Prior with the Carnival Band, "A Tapestry of Carols". It might be somewhat hard to find, but it's worth it for old, OLD songs. (My favorite carol ever is "The first tree in the greenwood."

I finally got my hands on Kathy Mattea's Good News last year and it's so lovely. Highly recommend it and it has one of the nicest renditions of The Christ Child's Lullaby I've ever heard. Starts off w/just Kathy singing and gradually the music comes in w/each verse. Just gorgeous!!

Last week I stumbled on to something over at iTunes by accident, I still had enough from my last iTunes gift card to get it and...Welll....I couldn't resist...

I now have I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas as part of my Christmas music Collection.

I know...I know...But I adore it!! I just can't help it!!

That song has been at the top of my Christmas playlist since Telus used it in an ad about 8 years ago.

And, because my mother loved the song so much too, it also started a new Christmas tradition for me: finding a hippopotamus stocking stuffer for her every year. In the past years I've found a fridge magnet, a pot holder, a couple of nicknacks, a couple of books, and a bathtub toy.

Wow... my parents have that album. On vinyl, no less.

And yeah... both he and Nat King Cole corner the market on having definitive versions of that same song.

Um ... Mel Tormé. Not my favourite singer overall but he owns that song.

And honorable mentions to Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennet, and Peggy Lee.

I don't have one album I listen too. Instead I have this completely random mix of songs from a bunch of different artists: Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, Stevie Wonder, Doris Day, Nancy Wilson, The Drifters, Destiny's Child, Chuck Berry, Luther Vandross, Kenny G, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Christina Aguilera, Lou Rawls, Frank Sinatra, Mariah Carey...the list is extensive!
