Thanksgiving recipe help

I'm making a bread pudding. The normal recipe calls for 1 egg per 1/2 cup milk. I'd like to substitute some cinnamon egg nog for part of the milk. As the nog already contains egg, should I just substitute 3/4 cup nog for each egg/milk I'm trying to replace?

This is not definitive since I've never tried it but I'd think you would still use an egg. The pasteurization process in eggnog would break down the egg properties that are needed in bread pudding. I'd stick to the recipe just using eggnog in place of the milk - maybe water down the eggnog just a little since it's thicker than milk.

I'd agree - you need it to be custardy. I don't know that it's necessary to water the eggnog down, it would be richer, I'd think, if you left it. Or "water it down" with a bit of brandy . Yum.

Bread pudding is pretty forgiving, so I think either way would be OK.

Thanks. My recipe calls for 4 cups of milk, so I'm going to try 2 cups of milk, 1 cup nog, and 1 cup heavy cream. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Unfortunately for the adults, we need to have this ok for small kids. My sil and I figure we needed to wait at least until the oldest is 10 before we introduce him to the wonders of rum, brandy and framboise.

Well, it does pretty much cook out during the baking, but I get that.

It's done, but I won't be able to taste it. Nice crust on top. Hope the center is creamy!
