    Dana's On-Ice-Training Report...11/11/12

Hiya everyone!!! Before I begin I just thought I'd say that if you all feel ok with me doing it...I feel very comfortable with using my actual name in my Reports now. As I feel I can now trust you all....So here it goes....

My Staff dropped me off at the Rink a few min. before Noon. I went in and signed-in at the Desk, and then went in to put on my Skates. I practiced some Spirals off the wall. As well as lifting me foot up in back of me. The way some Ice-Dancers do...As well as praticed lifting one Leg up in front of me. I must say that concentrating on Lifting your Feet or Legs up (AND) finding Balance on one foot at the same time is surely hard to do!!! BTW....HELP!!! I still am not able to get my Skates tied tightly to my Feet. I'm not sure for how long they were (if I was Skating on them). But today getting off-Ice I found my Right Skate Laces completely untide!!!! After tying them!! Can anyone please help?!!!

After she is done and has the little ends loose, my skater has enough to tie a second bow. This makes it extra secure.

Adding - do you know how to make bunny ears when tying shoes? How you wrap one under and then through?

There is a great way they won't come loose. At 56 seconds on this link you wrap the bunny ear - not once like the video but TWICE. It will be secure and not come out until you are ready for it to come out.

Say,btw. does anyone know how to help me go into a rotation after Jumping? As well as how to prevent a delay between what I do on Ice? I am believing that Rotation has something to do with wrapping your Legs around each other. Can anyone confurm this and help me? Thanks.

FSWer, skills on the ice are usually taught in a particular order, because the skills build on each other and each one gets you ready to do the next thing. Based on what you've told us about your skating so far, you aren't ready yet to safely be trying jumps with rotation. You're still trying to find your balance on one foot. There are many other skills you need to learn before you can start jumping. Please don't try it without proper instruction. You can hurt yourself trying to copy other skaters without understanding how to do the move correctly.

Hey Dana, I just had a thought. You've been skating for about a year now. Have you ever had your skates sharpened? It might be time to get them done, to make sure they're not sliding around.

I get them sharpened next month in Dec. I'm confused...don't I WANT to slide around on Skates?

You want to glide...not slide. Sliding if more a sideways action and is uncontrolled. Gliding is when your blades carve into the ice.

So basicly Gliding is when your blades go straight on the ice and you have control, right?

Exactly. Sliding can be dangerous because you have no control. I have lost edges on occasion and it isn't fun to be skating on no edge. I guess you cld say when you have your blades sharpened they grip the ice more.

I just got my Skates sharpened today...with that said.....here is todays Report...

I got to the Rink a little after 11:00. I checked in at the Desk, and waited a bit for a Hockey Game to get of the Ice,then went in and put on my Skates. After getting on the Ice I worked on what the Freestyler who worked with me the last time taught me. As well as practiced Spins,Gliding, and my Rinkside Glide-Ins. BTW. I forgot to mention this the last time. But on the day that my Freestyler Friend was giving me Lessons, she pointed out specail pants she was wearing for practice that I've never seen or heard of before. Does anyone know what these are called? These vers Sweatpants? Anyone here who has also worn them will know what I'm talking about. Also,if I ever need to buy new Laces for my Skates, are Laces for Skates,Laces for Skates? If my Rink's Proshop only cairies black Laces for HOCKEY Skates, and just white for Figure...can I just get the right leingh in the black Hockey Skates and use them in my Skates? Also I noticed that the prices for sharpening differ by the type of Skates. Can anyone explain why? Thanks.
