Not sure why Skate Canada would want Skate Canada and Worlds so close together. Won't that adversely affect the attendance numbers of both events? Unless the HST has dramatically improved the economy of Ontario, which they tried to sell to British Columbians.

So, I suppose Canadians will be really far away like Hamilton?

Wow, 5 years in a row that Ontario will get to host Skate Canada. Perhaps, we should rename the event Skate Ontario... This is not a criticism of the host cities who I am sure have a done a wonderful job hosting the events.

I just wish other parts of the country would get a chance to host Skate Canada.

So tempting to schedule a visit home in Michigan around this time! Any idea when tickets go on sale?

The AGM was in Calgary in 2004.

I've been looking into flights to Windsor from Calgary for synchro nationals. The event falls outside WestJet's seasonal service there, so my only option is Air Canada. I've looked into flying into Detroit, which is idiotic, but possibly a better option.

What is the situation for hotels and restaurants within walking distance? Google doesn't make it look promising.

Currently, there aren't any hotels within walking distance. Supposedly they're building a hotel attached to WFCU Centre, but not sure when it's supposed to open.

There are no restaurants within 5-10 mins walking distance, I think it's more like 15-20 mins. Within the facility, there's Tim Hortons and the usual vendors.

On the plus side, there's LOTS of parking.

I wonder if the official hotel will be at Caesars Windsor so that the skaters & officials can gamble during any free time?

Back in 1998 at Skate Canada in Kamloops, the official hotel was attached to a casino. Many a skater/official was seen parting with their hard earned cash at various slot machines.

Will decide later in 2012 what event I wish to attend in the 2012/2013 season. With Worlds too pricey, Skate Canada in Windsor is a possibility.

When SC was in Kitchener a few years ago, I had no problem driving some folks to and from the arena if they were staying at the same hotel as me. I have no problem doing that again for Windsor. I'm ecstatic that a GP event is close to me again. I haven't been to one since the SC in Kitchener and they're always SO much fun. I've all ready told my mom about this and now that she's crazy addicted to attending skating competitions too , we're all ready planning for Windsor.
An MLB.com reporter asked what one thing Votto couldn’t do. “I can’t skate or play hockey,” Votto said. “Well, I can skate ... but I can’t stop.”

I think I've talked my sister (non-skating fan) into coming with me. I would be staying with her in a suburb of Detroit and driving over every day.

Any advice on how much time to allow for passing into Canada each day?

My friend and I were considering this as well*. We have friends that live in Detroit and were just going to crash their house/apartment and drive back and forth each day... no idea on how much time it would take to cross the border... the last time I did that was when I ran across it for the Detroit Marathon and was screened ahead of time.

*That is... depending on where I am at the time... as of right now it looks like I'll (hopefully) be in Illinois, but who knows... but we've been begging for SA to come to Detroit for years, and Windsor is basically a Detroit burb... but if I end up on the west coast it wouldn't be worth it

Depends, of course, on the traffic and time of day. Last Friday it took less than 10 minutes to get across the bridge at about 9:15 in the morning. When I went over in the beginning of October, it was about the same at 9:00 am on a Saturday. They had only one lane each way, too, because of construction. By next fall, I assume all lanes will be open.

Thanks to both of you for the time estimate. I know at one time, it was quite a long wait, I wasn't sure if that was still true or not.

sk8er 1964, I feel the same way about the tunnel.

I didn't cross over at Detroit but both entering and leaving Canada through Niagara Falls took maybe 10 minutes.
