Do you know how the couples were matched up? Was it just a blind draw, or did they try to match styles?

I don't know how the teams were created but the couples will be divided in two groups that will compete:

    Ilia Averbukh’s Team Moscow

    Yagudin/Kretova
    Marinin/Somova
    Kostomarov/Osipova
    Shabalin/Krysanova

    Farukh Azimatov’s Team St.Petersburg

    Staviskii/Obraszova
    Tikhonov/Arbusova
    Tchernishev/Perren
    Vanagas/Makhalina

For those who are interested ,I gathered small info about some the choreographers of the show and few pieces of their work.

This sounds like an interesting project. I'll be interested to see how the skaters do.

I have to say that I always thought Maxim Marinin would make a good ballet dancer. He has wonderful carriage and very graceful arms and hands.

It is very nice indeed. If i recall correctly two years ago in one interview Maxim Marinin was positive that this kind of show won't happened but maybe the idea grew up .Last year i was a little sceptical about the dancing part of "Ice and Fire" ,because even though i never doubt the dancing abilities of the figure skating partners, it looked risky to pair them with celebrities who were non-professional dancers.Yet , it turned out OK. This year i can't wait to see the show

Averbukh's announcement about the show and small videoclips from the rehearsals.

I'm just afraid some of the couples will be given a stereotypical material.
E.g. Maxim Stavisky with all his Averbukh Shows partners was given jazz-modern, avant garde numbers, while Maxim Marinin - classical, romantic and boring (for the exception of his last partner - who was the best he had and really showed him as not only a classical "ballet-type" guy).
In case of Peter Chernyshev its always sex, passion.. Maxim Shabalin - romance, Roman Kostomarov - brutality...
I wish they all will be given a chance to show themselves in different styles and images.
But I already foresee Swan Lake from Marinin and Somova

I think it's going to be interesting because Evgenia Obratsova is always given the same romantic roles at the Mariinsky theatre. I think she was paired with Maxim Staviski because she is short.

I have seen the last three seasons from start to finish, and most programs from the previous seasons, so I can't quite agree with that. Stavisky and Kostomarov have been also romantic, Shabalin has been more diverse than that, but Chernyshev is the most diverse of them all. Besides, it's not like they were just "given'' something - they are all experienced professionals with their own ideas, their own input and stylistic preferences. Yes, Staviski has always liked being dramatic, Kostomarov seems to be a real macho type also in life, not just on ice/dancefloor, so he prefers a more brutal style and has said so for several times, Vanagas is the artistic type with his own developed style, but Chernyeshev likes to experiment with different styles and technically complicated things, even at the risk of not being successful with it. You are right about Marinin - he really started to show his true potential as a good dancer and actor just last year, and I hope he continues with it in this project. Also Yagudin and Tikhonov have had programs that were similar, but there were exceptions as well. So, I can't say that it was so stereotypical.

I forgot to add about Marinin - the problem apparently was in his partners, not in him. Volochkova was that pseudo ballet diva who needed stereotypical and similar programs. And his previous partner was a comic actress, so most programs were made in that slightly comic style. Actually, Marinin was quite good in some of them.

As for 'Swan Lake', in the post by vivika1982 below you can read that the dances won't be in the classical ballet style, so no 'Swan Lake' for Somova/Marinin .

Thank you for the articles NONKO

I translated the second one :
    http://kp.ru/daily/25778.3/2761042/

Averbukh gave a figure skater to each ballerina .

For the first time in history of "Averbukh,s projects”, the presentation will unfold not on the ice but on stage. And the main leading faces are going to be prima- ballerinas.

    - "Bolero" - is an innovative and somehow missionary project - says its creator, Ilya Averbukh. - The idea is that the world-famous ballerina of the leading Russian theaters, whose names resound throughout the world, but, unfortunately, are not so well known in their homeland, will dance with figure skating partners, Olympic and World Champions.

Q.- So we can see the ballet performed by the skaters?

IA- Not at all. It will be a dance. Not classical but modern. Dance as a way of expression. You'll see how professionals can dance . Those are not stars who are trying themselves in something else, but people who have already shown us all of their potential.

Q- Will someone stand up on pointes ?

IA- Perhaps, in some performances ballerinas will be using pointes as of expression in the dance, but it's not a classical ballet as "Swan Lake" for example.

Q- Are we going to see the guys in tights?

IA- Our idea is not to make cheap or shocking dances. Of course, no one will wear leggings or tights. That would be ridiculous and wrong. We're shooting at the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St Petersburg, our skaters are dancing with the best dancers, the chairman of the jury is the ballet master Vladimir Vasiliev, and it raises the bar for the project at a very high level.

Q- Very well then, but at least at the end ,just for one time , will you put everyone on skates ?

IA- (Laughs). No, skates in the show are not planned. This project stands for itself. We want to show our viewers not only dancers, but also many areas in the choreography .And for this idea, we’ve involved twenty choreographers in the project: Nacho Duato, and Francesco Ventriglia, Radu Poklitaru, and many other stars of the world choreography.

    The format of the project
Show "Bolero" is a competition. Each dance will be judged in 10-point system - separately for technique and artistry. The jury: Vladimir Vasiliev (Chairman), Tamara Moskvina, Gediminas Taranda and Tatiana Navka. According to the evaluation ,at the end ,the best pair will be determined.

    List of participants

    - Natalia Osipova, prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Theatre - Roman Kostomarov, Olympic champion in ice dancing in a pair of Tatiana Navka.

    - Kristina Kretova, the first soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre - Alexei Yagudin, Olympic and World champion in figure skating.

    - Kateina Krysanova leading soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre - Maxim Shabalin, World champion in ice dancing in a pair of Oksana Domnina.

    - Irina Perren, prima ballerina of the Mikhailovsky Theatre - Peter Chernyshev, five-time U.S. champion in ice dancing in tandem with Naomi Lang.

    - Vera Arbuzova, soloist of the Mikhailovsky Theatre - Alexei Tikhonov, World champion in pairs figure skating in a pair with Maria Petrova.

    - Iulia Makhalina, prima ballerina of the Mariinsky Theatre - Povilas Vanagas, World bronze medalist in ice dancing together with Margarita Drobiazko.

    - Evgenia Obraztsova, the first soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre - Maxim Stavisky, World champion in ice dancing in tandem with Albena Denkova.

    - Natalia Somova, prima ballerina Musical Theatre. Stanislavsky and VI. Nemirovich-Danchenko - Maxim Marinin, Olympic and World champion in pairs together with Tatyana Totmyanina
