thank you for all this hints, that
are not helping my spirits !!!
it seems all so complicated !!!
I'm getting frustrated !!
tut88, take the airport shuttle as recommended previously (Robert Q. etc). Leaves right from airport. If you take the train you have another cost to get downtown to catch the train. Can't get it from the airport.
And for all the snow squall concerns...please. This event is end of March. While, yes, we can get freak snowstorms at any time the likelihood of a disastrous blizzard at mid-end of March is about 1% in my mind. And if it does happen, everyone will be affected. And then even then, these things don't go on for six days...more like 6 hours, so very worse case you will miss one event.
I would factor the weather out of the equation almost entirely. It's like avoiding visiting Florida because they have hurricanes.

I know. But I do not approve. And I am not resigned.

Even in Ottawa it's rare if non-existent that we get snowstorms at the end of March. For the past several years our winters in Ottawa have been very mild and non-existent snow in March.
It will be fine!!
Sarnia is a pretty good choice not only cause I live there but ... we live right across from the US city of Port Huron so you could factor in some cheap shopping. They have loosened the rules on how much you can bring over in a short period of time but if you DO go over, I would recommend you bring your passport as proof of who are -- photo DL are often accepted but there have been times I've heard that wasn't enough to get you into the U.S.
Crazy about sports!
I live in a city that's been dubbed "crime capital of Canada". In reality, most of the crime is due to the drug trade operated by organized crime and if you don't go looking for it that kind of crowd doesn't seek you out. There's neighbourhoods that I'd avoid after dark as a young woman by myself but in reality it's not that hard to avoid.
I somehow doubt that Woodstock is really any different.
“Nothing is so strong as gentleness, nothing so gentle as real strength” - St. Francis de Sales
Where do you live? Can you please google or check out the crime stats for your community last year? How does it compare to Woodstock where last year in 2011 they had.. are you ready for this.. 'NO MURDERS'.. there was ONE terrible abduction and murder of a child in 2009..
Canadian cities in general have very low crime rates and even lower murder rates.. I work in these communities in the court systems and have consulted in the States and there really is no comparison when it comes to violent crimes.. In fact all over Canada the crime rates have dropped!
Most crimes in Woodstock are 'property crimes'.. any violent crimes are typically domestic violence.. and not any murders..
According to the local newspaper .."Woodstock's indexes are lower than provincial and national averages for crimes of violence, and between the two for non-violent crimes and the overall index. The city ended up in the middle of the pack when looking at the overall index for comparable 400-series highway urban communities such as Belleville, Cobourg and Brockville,
Looking at the city's geographic neighbours, the city's overall crime index was lower than Brantford, London and Stratford but higher than Ingersoll, Waterloo Region, St. Thomas, Norfolk County and Tillsonburg"
Even if you include 2011 crime rates actually dropped by 4% http://www.woodstockpolice.ca/images...ual-report.pdf Drug charges dropped by 11%..
Just because there is one murder/abduction of a child in 2009 it doesn't make a whole community unsafe.. really!
Thanks to PI .. I discovered I'm actually a Nontheist

Any word on when single-event tickets will finally go on sale? They've been delaying selling them for a long time, saying that they're waiting on info about scheduling from the ISU. Why so long?
