Residence Inn also has a decent breakfast which should help out with costs.
Sounds like fun, but I am skipping this oneTicket price wasn't the issue. Hotel and flights were.

Got our tickets...Section 107 Row P 7-8. Would have liked to have been a bit more center, but I'm okay with what we got. Still working on the hotel. We're driving up, so while I'd like to be close (walking distance), if it turns out to be a bit farther out, we're okay with that...I think.![]()
well, an all-event pass is way too expensive for me. I would like to attend the free dance, though. I hope I can afford the ticket for that event. I'm happy for all those who are going, though! I'm sure you will have a great time![]()
Camera policy at Worlds 2009 was strictly enforced with a "cloak room" to check expensive cameras. You should have seen the piles of them.
I am feeling a bit down about this event, acutally. I dont like the way the good tickets were secretly given out. ( For Nats Omaha 2013, you just went to a website and clicked on the seat you wanted...boom...done) I dont like the way some of the hotels are dealing with their room reservations and prices (we fans should be given discounts like we are at US Nats, Omaha) I have no idea why I can fly round trip to Detroit from Spokane for $450, then have to pay another $450 to fly round trip 100 miles to London. Maybe this feeling is because I just came back from 4 Cs COS, Nats San Jose, and SA Ontario Calif. and found good seats and pleanty of hotel space at each competition.
Yes, this is a worlds, but there is no reason why there cant be one website for the hotels showing prices and shuttle buss routes. This is not rocket science. To be a fan seems to be a necessary evil that should be treated as poorly as can be tolerated. We are bringing one heck of alot of money to that community and providing lots of jobs. It would be nice to be shown a bit of respect. This may be my last worlds.
Wow, you're not asking for much at all, are you!? Hotel discounts because you're a skating fan? One website to coordinate competing hotels?
You're not being treated poorly and rest assured that although this will bring some money to London, this one event isn't providing lots of jobs.![]()
No, it's not asking a lot at all. 2009 Worlds in L.A. had an official website with ticket information, hotel information (with multiple options), event schedule, etc. Every US Nationals has a website with special hotel rates listed. With the limited number of rooms in Londo, it would've been helpful to have a central housing group to handle all the hotel requests fairly. I still don't understand how London won the bid with such a small arena and being so far off the beaten path.

I never fly from Canada to US or US to Canada. It's ridiculously expensive. And why would you fly from Detroit to London? There are airbus services (i.e. Robert Q) that run between DTW and London for approx $65. I live in London and if I'm flying into the US I always use either DTW or BUF. It's a short drive really.I have no idea why I can fly round trip to Detroit from Spokane for $450, then have to pay another $450 to fly round trip 100 miles to London.
They're all possible. Spring in this area can be unpredictable, although in the Detroit area at least March precipitation is usually all rain. Here's some info on last March.
There is a train from Windsor to Toronto that appears to stop in London. There's probably some sort of private transportation available to get from DTW to Windsor.
As a frequent visitor to FSU, I have been following the posts on this thread and definitely agree that the ticket sale situation could have been handled differently (as in better). The whole pre-sale concept definitely left a bitter taste in my mouth. As someone who has only attended USFS events, where they provide dedicated websites with hotel info, shuttle buses, a range of ticket prices, etc. maybe we've been spoiled.
Some kind people did share the pre-sale code with me, but I ended up taking my chances when tickets "officially" went on sale. It didn't seem like the pre-sale seats were that great - maybe all the tour groups and federations gobbled them up? I wound up with seats in a good section, but not very close to the ice. But I refuse to let my displeasure with the booking process for tickets and hotels damper my enthusiasm for attending my first Worlds since 2003! FYI - there is a link to hotel information, under "accommodations" on the Skate Canada website. There isn't much in town, but maybe it will help some of you. I booked a room from that list.
I will be driving in from Buffalo, NY which is about three hours away. Our weather certainly can be a crapshoot in March, but it should be more in the way of rain (I'm hoping!). So now I will ignore any disappointments and try to wait patiently. "Try" being the operative word.
Not to be really obnoxious but I couldn't afford LA so I didn't go. Whine!!!
Hotels were expensive and tickets were out of sight. Airfare was cheap.
I am one Canadian person who should check their atlas. London is closer from Detriot than Toronto, I think, but it's probably easier to get transpo from TO.
Here's the website for Robert Q, the service mentioned upthread. https://reservation.robertq.com/airbus/
I've used this service to/from London about 1-2 times per month for the last 10 years .. whenever I fly out of Detroit or Toronto. They're reasonable and their vans are new and comfortable. Their main office is 4-5 minutes away from downtown hotels and train station, and 10-15 minutes away from hotels down Wellington Rd. towards Hwy. 401. If you pay a few dollars extra for transportation from their main office directly to your address (in my case to my home), they have cabs waiting when you arrive to take you to wherever you're going.
The only they can't control is weather. Otherwise they're fabulous .. in my experience.
To think that fun is simple fun, while earnest things are earnest, proves all too plain that neither one thou truthfully discernest.
Have to agree. To my mind, Omaha is way more off the beaten path than London. When I think of Omaha, I think of steaks and sporting events. London is a neat and charming city that is centrally located between Toronto and Detroit. Granted, I've been to London countless times and never been to Omaha![]()
Likely because they will get a sell out with just Canadians and tour groups, the arena isn't that big and there isn't a bad seat in the house, the location is great for walking to restaurants and shops and there is access to a great deal of hotel rooms within an hour and no real traffic to speak of..
With regards to hotels they are not allowed by law to go higher than their posted rate, but you can bet they will be at their maximum rate - and why not the demand will be there for those walking distance to the arena or close to downtown and compared to the prices I paid last summer in europe - your living costs will be a bargain. I booked a room and paid just over a $100 a 20 minute walk from the arena but I'll be driving so 5 minutes..- so that is about 65 pounds - and here you pay by the room not the person. In addition you can get a coffee here for a dollar .. having recently returned from Europe a vacation in Canada is a bargain! Now your ticketsthat's worth
