http://gallery.ice-skate.net/photos/...drew-gonzales/ (i love this so much!)

She also recently designed her daughter's wedding dress.

And another fun fact: Keegan Messing's mom draws up the ideas for his costumes and they are then sent off to their designer (forget who, it's a company). They then send her some designs back and she sends back what her and Keegan like and voila!

I am the one against the belt LOL and someone I follow hates the back, but I LOVE the back.

I love Jan Longmire's work!! Sasha's dresses were always GORGEOUS!

I love Alissa's skating and her costumes and actually asked about them before this thread started. Here is her reply:

Thanks so much for your message and the support! My short program dress was designed and made by Jef Billings! My long program dress (it's a deep purple color) was made by Stephanie Miller and Luanne Williams, and I along with my mom's help designed that costume!

Their response to Belbin/Agosto's OD costumes makes me laugh until my sides hurt every time I read it.

Also, have you read their book? Johnny could take notes on how to conduct a divorce.

I love Christina Gao's costumes, designed by Yumi Barnett-Nakamura in Wellesley, MA.

I also love a lot of Jef Billings's costumes, especially the Mulan dress he designed for Michelle Kwan years ago, as well as Sarah Hughes's Olympic costume.

I have loved everything Katelyn Weaver has ever worn - yes even the slip dress with the off shoulder strap that to me worked so well with the program for "Je Suis Malade". One of the times they skated it - I think either 4 Continents or GPFinal - her hair was falling out of her pony tail and her knee was bleeding at the end and with that wonderful strap falling off her shoulder, she looked like she had had quite the night of passion and angst.

I love the blue of her short dance dress this year. I have no idea who designs for her though.

Who designed Akiko Suzuki's Olympic LP dress? I thought she was the best dressed lady of the season with that dress.

ITA, the SP dress was nothing to sneeze at either.

I want Akiko's POTO dress. Seriously one of the most beautiful skating dresses I've seen, I think. Definitely my favorite of the season. I also really liked Mao's LP dress as well.

Akiko's and Mao's dresses are almost always wonderful. I think my all time favorite is this--so perfect for that program! http://www1.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/I...0Eq13vFr4l.jpg

I think most people here don't like Johnny's design for Yuzuru's FS this season, but what do you think of his designs for the ladies? Here's Elena Glebova's SP costume: http://www.gannett-cdn.com/-mm-/7e65...SI-7753278.jpg

I loved Akiko's "O" dress! It was totally in-character without being gaudy or over-the-top. Perfect balance.

I can't say I'm a fan of Weir's designs you listed above. I can see what he was going for and I appreciate him trying to go for different sorts of designs, however.

This sounds like a thread that belongs in the Trash Can. I don't mean that it is 'trash' at all. Actually it's a very good discussion. It's just that we don't normally see these in GSD. I am used to seeing links to articles, interviews, or other news in GSD.

The free skate dress (the orange one) is almost exactly the same as a commercial pattern I have had for years. A slight alteration for the sweetheart neck and a bit of bling are the only changes.

I think I am in the minority here, but I do love Hanyu's free skate costume that Johnny designed.

A good rant is cathartic. Ranting is what keeps me sane. They always come from a different place. Take the prime minister, for example. Sometimes when I rant about him, I am angry; other times, I am just severely annoyed - it's an important distinction. - Rick Mercer

I love so many of Suzuki's dresses, but I think my favorite is the "Ladies in Lavender" dress she wore in the gala.

It is actually a pretty old thread that I inadvertently revived, not realizing its age. Not sure why it was not in the trash can to begin win.

Always baffles me why the Russians cant make nice costumes, but then there were Bazarova's 2011-2012-2013 dresses, that were probably the prettiest in the pairs field. Again, weird that she is the only one who got pretty dresses while the others wore erm... am not even sure what to call it

I remember at Worlds last year, how many comments there were about how shockingly classy the costumes were for both Ilinykh/Katsalapov and Bobrova/Soloviev. I had to agree, and I thought it was a nice direction for Russian skaters to go into.

OMG. I think she usually looks fairly bad. The dresses she chooses are too often dull and dowdy and look more suitable for a 40 year old. Her skirts are unflatteringly long for her shape. She looks neither elegant nor athletic. I have sometimes wondered if even the judges have been turned off by her dullness.

I don't know who is the best skating dress designer, but I'd nominate whoever did those incredibly ugly dresses of Sotnikova's as the worst.

After Vancouver with V-M and D-W atop the podium wearing costumes that looked more like people clothes than skater costumes, I remember one of the Russian coaches talking about their dance being behind the times even when it came to costuming. Since then, there has been a shift in Russian ice dance costumes away from the scraps and flourishes toward simpler designs that look more like party clothes. There was some backsliding this year, but in general, I think ice dancing outfits look a lot better than 10 or 15 years ago for pretty much all of ice dance (except the French, of course, who simply will not get the memo about overly theatrical).
