    David Kirby Resigns from PSA

Does anybody know what happened? He is a great coach and ISU Technical Specialist. He ran or is running a rink in Dallas.

    What is the PSA?

Is he no longer an official/coach?

    Thanks for the article.

Did he just resign as president or has he left the organization completely? It sounds like if he is no longer a member he cannot coach skaters or officiate at events.

    I wonder why...

All I've heard so far is that he has resigned his position as PSA President. He is currently listed as the coach of Amanda Dobbs and co-coach of Ashley Cain/Joshua Reagan.

Did he resign because he teaches those athletes? Conflict of interest?

Doubtful. If there was a potential conflict of interest, I imagine that he would not been considered for the role of PSA President in the beginning.

He can resign from being President and still be a member of the PSA.

Someone will have heard something sooner or later...

Until then, I'm assuming part (if not all of it) is because serving as PSA President can be an incredibly time consuming commitment. I'm not sure if it's even paid -- It may very well be all volunteer.

I believe they get per diem/stipend for travel for PSA related issues but that is all.

He's a very interesting man, and knows skating from every conceivable angle. Great guy!

In my spare time, I like to interview figure skating legends.

After listening to the podcast, I wonder if he decided to go back to his original "retire at 50" life plan? Hmmm...

He resigned from the Presidency and the Board of Directors. The website listings haven't been updated yet; the PSA will be choosing a new person (to finish out Mr. Kirby's term) during the meeting in November. The announcements did not say that he resigned from the organization entirely, so his coaching status would remain active, afaik. The ISU still lists him as a tech specialist.

ETA - thanks for asking my question about the ISI, Manleywoman.
