The Reputation Institute study measures the trust, esteem, admiration and good feelings the public holds towards 50 countries, as well as perceptions of peoples' quality of life, safety and attention to the environment. Results from 42,000 respondents worldwide ranked Canada first, Sweden next, followed by Australia, Switzerland and New Zealand

Must be something like that. Our quality of life in Canada is not as high in Sweden and European countries in terms of social services and programs. In BC at any rate the minimum wage is well below the poverty line and our government assistance has been severely cut.

Not to mention, our conservative and right wing Prime Minister won't be doing anything to improves the lives of the poor or disadvantaged. His latest move has been new crime legislation which increases penalties for a variety of crimes, including possession of pot.

On 60 Minutes the survey (I don't know the name of it) ranked the Danes as the happiest people on earth. I'm surprised they are not top 5.

Norway is in 6th place.

Norway, Denmark, Finland, Austria and the Netherlands rounded out the top 10.

I'd say that's a pretty good vote for Scandinavia in general.

I've visited other countries, but I've never lived anywhere but the U.S. so I couldn't say. One thing that strikes me about the top countries other than maybe Austria and the Netherlands, is that they are not densely populated.

It's a corporate marketing business, folks. Not that I don't love Canada but it's not an objective survey by any stretch of the imagination.

Maybe a few years ago Canada could have ranked high. Not so sure anymore. I'd have had any Scandinavian country above ours. So, it's not surprising the survey isn't so much of a real survey.

Well it's not the best country to live in or the best country in terms of quality of life, but the perception of it from people around the world.

I don't know how relevant this study is but it's still good to know people find Canada in high regards.
