I tried looking this up on Snopes because it seems like one of those made up stories. The picture looks like the mother and child are dead so it only more confusing. Snopes says the validity is undetermined.

The only part that I found hard to believe was the text message on the cell phone. That sounds "made up". Otherwise, I don't find it hard to believe that a mother would shield her child in an earthquake, tornado, or other disaster, and that the child could survive. In fact, I know someone who survived a car accident because her mother shielded her at the point of impact. Her mother did not survive.
