Nope, I'm with ya! But I used to love the guy.

Pre-consecutive Oscars hungry, adventurous, and earnest Hanks =

Post-consecutive Oscars pandering SERIOUS ACTOR Hanks = *

Some good movies mentioned above, though, and by others in the thread. Loved Bachelor Party!

*(exception: Catch Me if You Can, which was filmed - quite obviously - during a Hanks meds imbalance that caused him to forget that he was The Tom Hanks and allowed him to be fun without an agenda.)

I loved The Road to Perdition. It did not get the recognition it deserved. It should have been nominated for Best Picture Oscar.

I probably should have made this poll a 'pick 5' instead of 'pick 3'

Catch Me if You Can -- I think. It's been a really long time since I saw it (I've been meaning to see it again), but I seem to remember liking him in it!

You know, I liked Big and Road to Perdition and I admired Philadelphia. But as far as Hanks himself, I've never found him to be more than credible to good (and I cannot stand him as the lead in a romantic comedy). None of his films have ever made me want to see another film just because he is in it. Whereas Daniel Day Lewis, I would definitely go to a film just because he was in it.

I agree with you about Catch Me If You Can, he was very different in that film and I did enjoy him there. I'm so disappointed that he's been cast in Cloud Atlas and Extremely Loud and Incredibly close, because I LOVE both of those books and I was so excited for the film versions. I did, however, get over Nicole Kidman in Rabbit Hole, so I'm assuming I can do the same in both of these films.

This is tough because he's been real good in a number of films.

    I chose:

Saving Private Ryan Just the best WWII movie ever made and his character is the soul of the story.

    Philadelphia
Not only brilliantly portrayed, but an important film.

Castaway Not as good a movie overall, but he carried virtually the whole movie by himself.

He was good in Big, Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, and A League of Their Own. But IMO, they weren't quite up to the mark as the one's I like.

I really like certain goofball moments: "Dragnet" was not a good film but watching him dancing around imitating the suspects in a ridiculous costume made me laugh. I enjoyed when he hosted SNL. I picked "Big", "A League of Their Own" and "You've Got Mail" but it easily could have been three other films.

I'm not really a movie person, so I haven't seen most of those, but I did love Forrest Gump and Big. My 3rd vote will go to Woody from Toy Story

No Joe Vs the Volcano? If You've Got Mail is on your list, JVTV should be. Seriously, I loved Big, Forrest Gump, Philadelphia, League of their Own, Sleepless in Seattle, & enjoyed most of the others.
