Just got an email about Ice Theater of New York's Annual Gala Benefit which is honoring Johnny Weir. It takes place on Monday, October 24th at Chelsea Piers Skyrink 59. It really sounds like a great evening including a peformance at 7 PM followed bycocktails, dinner, award ceremony and silent auction at The Lighthouse. It's not clear what one has to do to get an invitation; one might need to submit a substantial journal placement with a special message for Johnny.
Two things that might get in the way of my attending:
- Tara Modlin is co-chairing
- The minimum contribution is for a journal placement is $250

I'm going to stir up the hornet's nest.
Is Johnny skating that well anymore? I saw him peform with ITNY 2 or 3 months after the 2010 Olympics and he was worth the $25 I paid. However, he was looking pretty bad in All That Skate LA 2010, a few months after that. It doesn't sound to me that he has been training much since then.
