66 years ago a small but outstanding state was born:
The State of ISRAEL!
Yesterday evening (according to the Jewish calendar our days begin at sundown) began one of the most somber dates for Israelis, the Memorial Day for fallen soldiers and victims of terrorism. On that day there is a siren all over the country. People stand silently for 2 minutes to honor and remember the dead. Just as it happened last week when we remembered the victims of Holocaust, today as well the traffic stopped, people got out of their vehicles on highways and roads to stand with heads bowed. Cafes and places of entertainment shut for the day. Radio and TV stopped their regular shows and instead broadcast war documentaries and stories about soldiers killed in action.
This sad atmosphere will end sharply at sundown when our Independence Day begins with dancing, fireworks and parties all over the country.
Happy Birthday, Israel!
Have a Happy Independence Day!
