I think that's right--only coaches and occasional relatives are in the arena during monitoring, and no filming.

I had never heard of this Champs Camp before. Is this like the Karolyi training camps in gymnastics? (I hope not as those seem to tend to BREAK perfectly healthy gymnasts )

LOL, it's just once a year, and as there is an actual SEASON in figure skating, the Champs Camp dovetails nicely with skaters existing training plans, imo.

Initially, it was in June, and it was basically a seminar on COP, training, sports med, etc. That wasn't the most productive use of skaters' time, so it was moved to August (just before the start of the season) and expanded from a seminar to include test skates and feedback.

Now it makes sense, and probably helps the skaters quite a bit, especially the younger ones.

That said, I do think it was at Champs Camp last year where Rachael was told to cut her hair. But hopefully most of the advice is geared to the COP world of skating - how to raise levels - and not 6.0 - add some ruffles to your costume!

    Rippon - 4lutz
    Abbott - 4toe
    Mahbanoozadeh - 4toe
    Miner -4sal
    Lysacek - 4toe

Eh, the quad is all talk right now. Let see any one the men actually landing them in competitions.

Mroz barely eeked out of his 4t landings last year, so I don't have too high hope of seeing his 4f or 4l. And even if he did land those jumps, if the rest of his skating is still mediocre then he won't get very far.

Other than Abbott's 4 toe which I'm still leaning on since US nats 10, I don't see all of those happening for sure. I was really impressed with Rippon's quad lutz practice video but I have to agree with your last comment.

Absolutely correct. Hence, my emoticon. One skater not on there who probably has a better chance of getting a consistent quad is Dornbush, based on his technique but ironically, he's the one holding back from any pronouncements

That's because he is struggling with the quad.

I don't think there is anything else like the Karolyi camp, thank goodness. It's more of a team-building type thing, rather than a selection camp, but skaters get monitored and get judging feedback on their programs, get various types of sports, nutrition, PR, etc counseling. Program monitoring, though, goes on all the time, including at skaters' home rinks.

A lot of sports have their national teams meet up for a camp at the Olympic training center like this. I know Michael Phelps was posting about a camp there earlier in the summer.

^Who gives the feedback exactly? Other coaches, USFSA officials, Jump or Spin Doctors?

I imagine any of those probably can and do, but the important folks are those trained as judges/technical callers who can give feedback vis a vis COP scoring/levels.

This seems like a good opportunity for me to say it for the 7500th time: I HATE QUADS. I hate that talented skaters with so much going for them have to struggle with this one thing, and that a lot of people consider them flat-out failures without it. It makes no sense to me.

For whatever reason, the Shibs and Ashley Wagner are still geoblocked in Canada.

Alex S. wants a Charlie White wig!!! I liked Alissa's idea of a dance team with Jeremy

I don't hate quads per se, but I also hate that it is seen as THE mark of whether you're a contender or a great skater or whatnot. There are MANY other skating moves and qualities I would call a priority before a quad.
