New Patti Smith Compilation/Favourite Patti Smith Song

Patti Smith has just released a new compilation CD, which is streaming at AOL:

Patti Smith's "Outside Society" album - a great listen!

I read somewhere that it focusses on her singles, so if you have favourite album tracks, they might be missing. Although it doesn't include her covers of Prince's "When Doves Cry" or the Stones "Gimme Shelter". There's already three famous covers on the album already, so maybe that's why these were not included.

If you'd like an abbreviated listen, here's a link to the amazon.com samples:

By the way, originally I thought I'd choose twelve songs that weren't necessarily on this album (which I eventually did) and while I was googling to see what others felt were amongst Patti's best, I found two sites where people said how much they loved her duet with Don Henley, "Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough". Alas, Ms. Smith did not include this song on this CD, so it is not in the poll.
It's official. I am madly in love with Meryl Davis.

I LOVE Patti Smith. For those that haven't, you should check out her autobiographical novel Just Kids, which focuses on her relationship with Robert Maplethorpe. It's a great read and it really gives a lot of insight into the music.

Here is a great video of her performing "Because the Night."

I had a roommate who was a complete Patti Smith freak. He would tell me all about Patti Smith being Robert Mapplethorpe's muse and such.

I remember when 10,000 Maniacs did a cover of 'Because the Night' in the early 1990s, he was beside himself

BTW, did anyone else hear that they are making the intertwined lives of Mapplethorpe and Patti Smith into a movie?

I don't believe she remarried after her husband died.

and the 10,000 Maniacs cover of "Because the Night" is just sad (I can't stand Natalie Merchant's voice).
Q: Why can't I read the competition threads?
