RIP, Nick Ashford (of Ashford & Simpson), legendary song writer

    Ashford dies

Even if his wife and he had written only Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand), I'd still be forever in appreciation and awe.

RIP, Mr. Ashford. Throat cancer ... what a horrible disease.

I didn't know they had written Ain't No Mountain High Enough!

    RIP Rick Ashford.

Loved them - went to their concerts several times.
I think I will have a snack and take a nap before I eat and go to sleep.

Heard "Found a Cure" on the radio the other night.

What a legacy of songs and performances for him and Val Simpson - and Diana Ross's album "The Boss" (they produced, wrote and I am pretty sure sang backup on it).

Loved Found a Cure, and The Boss was one of Diana's better albums.

But my favorite song performed by them was their 70s masterpiece, Is It Still Good to Ya?....

Nick Ashford ...legend. One of the best American song writers ever. Completely underrated; He and Valerie's songs written for Motown changed music.

He died of throad cancer at the age of 70. I'll send out prayers to Valerie and their family.

One of my fav songs is You're All I Need To Get By. The song is so uplifting. I use to sing this to my daughter when she was in the nicu.

My favourite Ashford and Simpson songs:

    1. The Boss (Diana Ross, later covered by the Braxtons, Kristine W and Whitney Houston)

    2. Stuff Like That (Quincy Jones featuring Chaka Khan)

    3. It's My House (Diana Ross)

    4. I'm Every Woman (Chaka Khan and it was covered by some chick singer in the 90’s if I’m remembering correctly…)

    5. Reach Out and Touch Somebody's Hand (Diana Ross’ first single)

    6. Solid (their own recording)

    7. Uh-Uh Ooh-Ooh Look Out Here It Comes (Roberta Flack)

    8. Ain't No Mountain High Enough (Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell, then Diana Ross, Inner Life, Stacy Lattisaw & Howard Hewett, Jimmy Barnes, Whoopi Goldberg (Sister Act 2), Michael McDonald, Human Nature, Eddie Money…)

    9. Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing (Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, Jackson 5, Aretha Franklin, Donny & Marie, Angela Bofill, Elton John & Marcella Detroit, Gladys Knight & Vince Gill, Boyz II Men…)

    10. Found A Cure (their own recording...and add "High Rise" to the list!)

Such sad news... Thank you for all the great music!!
It's official. I am madly in love with Meryl Davis.

Aw. Loved their music and always thought they seemed like the nicest couple in show biz.

My friends used to make up rude lyrics to "Solid" when we were in primary school.

Yes he did. Sadly, now, at 'fred's age, those "Solid" madlibs are just cruel nostalgia.
