The active judge expresses strong bias. Is this fair?

On February 23, 2011, before the Figure Skating world championship mpetition,
an ISU international judge, Ms. Sung-Hee publicly commented on South Korean TV...

- Problems with the jumps and lack of confidence of the rival Japanese skater.

- Judges will assign GOE of 2 to 3 points to their favorite Korean skater to push her score up.

- How the favored skater will set the world record and win the gold medal.

- Cozy relationship between judges and their certain favorite skater.

Shouldn't it be questioned that active judge expresses strong bias and favoritism and practically confirms the Korean skater's gold medal in public media?
Has this judge seen the competition already??

If you didn't know, this "judge" is a one of the panelists in Yuna's Kiss & Cry show. She is apparently very close with Yuna and she is a member of the Korean Skating Federation.

Although her resume says she is also a ISU judge from 2010, I don't think she has worked as a judge in any of the major competitions, and certainly not the ones in which Yuna participated. In Korea, she is viewed as a "figure skating expert/commentator" rather than a "judge", and she gave this interview as a figure skating commentator.

Thus I don't see any issue here - if this was an international judge making such public comments and expressing his/her bias before serving as a judge in the championship, sure, that would be a serious issue.

But this was in the context of a local Korean broadcast with a Korean expert giving her opinion & cheering Yuna's return to competition. Also, the translations are not really accurate, and obviously, there was a definite agenda in someone translating this.

She's a vice-president of Korean Skating Federation according to the this *cough hate video. And she's Korean. In a public interview, what would you say to people with an insanely high expectation for Yuna?

Correct me if I'm wrong but, isn't using 'cozy relationship with other judges' a popular way of lobbying throughout all the sports? This has been said PUBLICLY already IMO this method is very useful particularly for some countries not for a country which doesn't have plenty of ISU officials and ISU-level judges but only one ISU level judge and only one top skater.

Well I do criticize this judge for the manner at the interview-well she could have been at least subtle on some parts- and causing you to make this thread for soon-to-be long long boring fight.

Considering what country the person who posted that video is from, I wouldn't necessarily trust the "translation." It's just too easy to slant a "translation" to make it sound anti-this or pro-that. I mean, what are the chances that this person can so fluently translate a complex interview with technical points in another foreign language? And, if one learned the language of a certain country fluently, then one obviously likes said country, and would *surely* not be so petty as to use her foreign language skills to upload inflammatory videos that essentially bash an athlete AND commentators from said country? The video was posted on July 22nd, and it was an interview done back in February. What's the motive in taking five months to "translate" it and posting it about three months after worlds? Oh wait, OP and the video poster are sh**-stirrers.

Miki Ando with one mistake beat Yuna with two mistakes in the free program.

And this is when some people (including posters here) believe that 45% Yuna is better than 80% Miki, and Yuna is at least 2-3 mistakes better than everyone else. Go figure.

This judge is Ms. Sung-Hee KOH, not Mrs.Lee's.
Just before this interview, she did participate as a panel of judges at the Four Continents Championships(15/02/2011 - 20/02/2011), not World Championships.

So, are you trying to say Kim has been held up through the years and at Vancouver by the lobbying of Korean judges or her federation? Please, get real.

Posters in this forum like you amaze me by reminding me each time of how some Japanese have been influenced by the distorting translations/reports by their own media and, consequently, driven out of touch from reality. Ever since Kim won 2006 JWC over Asada, through the years and in too many instances the Japanese media deliberately distorted the words given by Kim and painted negative picture on her. I can present as many cases as you need before you would cry stop. No wonder Japan is the only place in the world where Kim is viewed as an arrogant, cocky and dark character by the general public (you wouldn’t deny Kim is one of the most recognized foreign athletes in Japan; I bet 90%+ of Japanese know her). It’s a pity, and a shame.

Your post reminds me of the senseless and narrow-minded accusations given by the Japanese protesters during the series of recent demonstrations they had at the centre of Tokyo against the popularity of Korean TV dramas and K-Pop singers in Japan.
