Nope, I'm stuck on the "Arriving At Diagon Alley" scene. So far I've found a candle, a shell and the salt and pepper shakers - and read Harry's letter from McGonagle.

The pictures are very dark on my scene, though.

Yesterday I started brewing another potion with the free ingredients I found along the way, bought the missing ingredient and of course messed it up. So now I am out of the free ingredients I've picked up and the one I bought.

It took me forever to figure out Alohomora so it will be a while until I duel anyone. Not sure where I suck more, potions or spells.

You can challenge--it just won't give you points. It's like a friendly practice duel. Gil-Galad did that with me to show me just how pathetic I was at it all

Don't pick up anything until you've been sorted. After that, you can go back through the scenes and collect items. For everything you collect, you receive house points.

Well, pick up the shopping list in the middle of the road in Diagon Alley. But that's it.

I read the instructions very literally about starting with the first letter, so that was all I would click on. I couldn't figure out what all those other letters were there for

And is it just me or did you won an enormous amount of points in dueling since then?

Just a few

I must confess, though, that my son has earned quite a few of those points. He figured out how to duel random people in the other houses, and he just went to town with that. We've tried different dueling techniques, so it's been fun to trade notes as it were.

There are only three choices for cores -- phoenix, unicorn, and I can't remember the third -- but the description for elm is lovely:

The third option is dragon heartsting, IIRC.

Thing is, you can't tell which curse someone used when they challenged you. I think it would be fun for both duelists to have to use the same curse--that way you could tell who did it best.

I guess for us folk here, we could let others know which curse we used, and then restrict ourselves to picking those curses when we duel. That way we wouldn't be stuck using the same ol' curse each time.

Yeah, that would make more sense to pick from the same pool of spells...but I suppose were it a "real" duel the wizards wouldn't say, "Kay, we're both doing the the tickling curse, deal?"

I think you can only pick up three fangs at a time. This bit me in the butt yesterday when I realized I'd put 24 snake fangs in a potion instead of the required six.

Yep you put Snake Fangs in the mortar twice (which equals 6), crush them and then take four pinches from the mortar and put them in your cauldron.

EDIT: to pestle! Use the motar.

HC, you need 6 snake fangs, so pick up twice and watch the counter to the left of the mortar. The word is "grind". You can just go at it as fast, you can't mess that up--click away at the pestle. When it's ground sufficiently (again, watch the counter, it will be in the green zone when it's done), take 4 pinches (or measures per book) and dump into the cauldron.

Light the cauldron and be careful to keep the temp in range. The temp controls are under the cauldron.

I've failed it so many times, I know it a bit too well now.
