    kwanfan1818:

You probably should remove the first set of dances, since they were from the meet the top 20 and everyone was dancing in his or her own style.

Also, it looks like you included the solos from last week. For instance, Jess did not do Broadway between Contemporary and Rumba. Contemporary was his assigned dance last week, Broadway was his solo, and Rumba was this week.

Sasha's dances seem off. I'm not counting the group dances or the top 10 when everyone did a solo, because I think the issue is the "luck" of the draw . She has had: Contemporary (top-20), Hip-Hop (top-20 redux), Contemporary (16), Hip Hop, (14), Paso Doble (12), Jazz (12), Hip Hop (10), Quickstep (8), Jazz (8). So she has had Contemporary twice, Jazz twice, Hip Hop three times, Latin (Paso), and Ballroom (Quickstep).

Compare that with Melanie's "luck": Contemporary (20), Jazz (20), Lyrical Hip Hop (16), Jazz (14), Tango (12), Contemporary (12), Viennese Waltz (10), Contemporary (8), Jazz (8). So that's three Contemporary, three Jazz, one Lyrical Hip Hop, one Latin (Tango), and one Ballroom (Viennese Waltz -- with no dance holds).

And ITA with genevieve that Contemporary and Jazz are pretty much the same. If you do that, it means that Melanie has had six in her genre compared to four for Sasha, not to mention that Melanie's Viennese Waltz was basically a contemporary. Could Melanie do a real hip hop number? Or an actual ballroom that requires her to dance backward in heels in a close hold?

As for Marco, his "luck' has been overlooked. He's had Contemporary (20), Jazz (20), Lyrical Hip Hop (16), Jazz (14), Tango (12), Contemporary (12), Samba (10), Contemporary (8), Hip Hop (8). That's three Contemporary, two Jazz, two Latin (Tango and Samba), one Lyrical Hip Hop and one Hip Hop.

Oh, and I'm bitter about losing Jess, who, despite his height, proved to be the most versatile guy, imo. He only danced in "his" style once during the performance shows, and that was his very first week. He had: Broadway (20), Contemporary (20), Foxtrot (16), Contemporary (14), Lyrical Hip Hop (12), Jive (12), Contemporary (10), Hip Hip (8), Rumba (8). So that's three Contemporary, two Latin (Jive and Rumba), and on each of Broadway, Ballroom (Foxtrot), Lyrical Hip Hop and Hip Hop.

I loved Jess and I'm sad to see him go, but I also love Tadd so...bad me for not voting. It shoulda been Ricky.

I agree with everyone else about Contemporary and Jazz being basically the same thing on this show and in Melanie's case she had a very Contemporary waltz and a very contemporary "lyrical hip-hop" as well. And I know Sasha is promoted on the show as a Contemporary specialist but the dancing she did as part of "Glam Nation" certainly looked as much hip-hop as contemporary and as has been noted many times her posture, line and carriage are closer to that of a hip-hop dancer than a ballet dancer. I think she's a contemporary specialist in the same way Joshua was completely untrained.

Speaking of dancers from past seasons - if Mark had worn that costume and had that body during his season he'd have won the whole thing. The rest of you can keep Danny and Neil and Joshua and Brandon - Mark will always be my favorite.

I did include the solos from last week. The last four for Jess I have listed are Contemporary, Broadway (from last week) and Rumba and Hip-Hop (from this week). I wasn't trying to list them in order within a week; I was trying to get an idea of how many each dancer had in his/her stated "expertise" (according to the SYTYCD site) as the shows progressed.

I, too, agree that the difference between contemporary and jazz on this show is negligible. Many times, apart from the ballroom dances choreographed "straight", and some of the hip-hop, I haven't been able to distinguish much amidst the generic: it looks like one big gooey mess to me. But then I expect the (tour) show is one big gooey mess, and what better way to hide the limitations of the dancers than to make the choreography non-specific.

Will Wade Robson be coming back to choreograph? I've missed his work on the show.

A clarification: the tango Melanie and Marko danced is not considered a Latin dance. It's ballroom. To this date, Melanie hasn't had Latin. At least Marko had samba. And a real one at that.

Nigel knows who they have to choreograph the finale performance show. Since the order of departure really doesn't matter between Top 10 and Top 4, I think the producers do manipulate to insure that they have the right folks for the choreo they have. The lineup for the last two performance shows seems to be leaning hip hop and stuff with lots of lifts, so they need Tadd.

Hmmm. Kent, Jaime, Elanore, Jeannette, Pasha, and Twich. My guess is they throw Caitlynn under the bus with a Twitch pairing and that they dispose of Ricky by giving him Jaime.

That is what my mother said. No reason not to do that with the All Stars in the mix. My mother also commented on Melanie's "thunder thighs" but we did not see any jiggling either.

Didn't Nigel say something to the effect that they were going with America's vote. Meaning Jordan and Jess got the lowest vote count.

Jess's solo was way better than Tadd's but they are just so different it is hard to compare. I think Jess had to tone down his presentation once Nigel started pegging him as arrogant or cheesy or over the top, and it didn't help him show his true personality. Not that the voters would have connected to him anyway.

They didn't announce the all stars for next week, did they? If they did, I missed it.

Melanie needs to get Latin next week.

Yay Ellenore!!!!!! I think they should use more Season 6 people because apart from Russell and Kathryn (who toured with season 7), they never got a tour. Cept not Mollee please. I would like to see Jakob, Russell, Legacy, and even the DiLello's.

The rest are on twitter too -- Pasha, Twitch, and Janette Manrara. Yay Janette.

I'm so excited to get Ellenore and Janette on the same night. It's interesting though, Janette's solos were dreadful because she had to dance by herself. I loved her doing Jazz and Contemporary though.

Re Janette -- I loved her "off style" -- she had a lot of cross training. If you look on you tube, you can find old videos of her competing contemporary/jazz when she was younger, not just salsa/latin. I don't think they are supposed to do solos outside of their "best" style though. I remember Jaymz (a "contemporary/jazz" dancer) who'd trained in latin/ballroom trying to do a Paso Doble solo and Nigel giving him a ton of flack for not doing his best style.

I remember that too Rob. I think it's stupid they can't do whatever solos they want.

Can't wait to see Janette and Ellenore!
Q: Why can't I read the competition threads?
A: Competition forums on the board are available to those with a Season Pass or a premium membership How to View Kiss & Cry

I really, really liked their guest group number this week -- do I understand correctly that this was choreographed for them by SYTYCD just this week? I thought that the guest troupes normally brought in pre-defined routines, but if it really is something they pulled together this week than I'd hope that a whole bunch of those dancers audition as future contestants. The two guys who did the synchronized diagonal tumbling sequence were particularly remarkable -- that was gorgeous.

While I would have preferred that they have kept Jess, who I think is all around a better dancer, I give Tadd great credit for putting together an appealing DFYL. I particularly liked how he managed to use the equipment to work off, and the final landing in the pit. I miss the old stage with the stairs; I think that added quite a bit to routines like Ruby Blue in terms of getting the dancing off the plane of the stage.

Got my August newsletter from Alvin Ailey this week, and one of their photos struck me.

Now, little ones on SYTYCD, THIS is how you do a tilt: (Jordan, are you paying attention?)

Oh, and my favourite thing about the last two shows was most definitely the Legion of Extraordinary Dancers. Just amazing! (And what an awesome organisation too).

I will watch anything with Christopher Scott. He's adorable. I've even suffered through the nearly unwatchable LXD Hulu series.

I agreed with who they sent home this week. I was shocked that Rickey made it through, but I do connect more with him than I did with Jess. I liked Jess but he never wowed me outside of his style.

I knew Sasha and Melanie were safe...no doubt in my mind, and I'd go as far as to say it will be between those two for who wins. I love Melanie! I think she's adorable and that leap she did into Neil's arms gave me goosebumps! And I love Sasha too. Her presence is so strong and fierce and I love that!

I really love Tadd and Marko too. Tadd is so versatile and I agree with him staying over Jess. Who would think a B-boy would be that good in ballroom, lyrical, etc. etc...he's a special kind of dancer.

I'm happy to hear Jannette will be an all-star this week. She and Brandon were my dream team of that season and I was so pissed when she got voted off. I loved Jeanine but I thought Jannette was better than her...anyhoo, can't wait for tomorrow!
