The treasure was housed in a small temple in the state of Kerala. It was apparently acquired over the generations by the local royal family and used as a sort of bank of last resort. They claim to have always known about it but not the Indians courts are trying to decide what to do with it. Some want the treasure left alone while others want it to go to public works projects or public schooling.

Did not want to start a new thread so I will post this here. A french couple has found about €100,000. worth of old gold coins in their cellar. Under French law the coins rightfully belongs to them because it was found on their property. The coin date from the 16th century to the French revolution. So maybe we should all start looking in our backyards and cellars more closely eh?!

Wasn't there a fable or a parable about someone inheriting a fortune if they could find it, buried in the back yard. And the fortune turned out to be the fruit/vegetables/whatever that grew from the freshly turned soil?
My house sits on an old farm property - developed in the late fifties. I don't really suppose I'll find a fortune, but I did dig up a brick once. Always knew I had a strong clay content, but this brick was fully formed. Amazing.
