    Betty Callaway RIP

Just saw this posted on UK Skating Forums - news of the death of Betty Callaway, best known as the coach of Torvill & Dean. She was 83.

Not sure if this counts as an official announcement. Hope it's okay to llink to another forum (admins please remove if not):

RIP Betty. Condolences with her family and friends. I loved her regal, old skool English ways.

RIP Betty. Thanks for all you did for skating.

This is very sad. She was an excellent coach, not just to T&D but to the other teams she worked with as well. From what I know of her working style, she really respected her skaters' judgement and opinions, and collaborated with them on building what they wanted to build. Rather than like some coaches we all know, where it's "this is my style and you do it or else, even if it looks like cr*p on you".

She was one of the greats. Not only T/D but also the great Hungarian dance team & World Champs, Regoczy/Sallay, and the German European champs, the Bucks. RIP.

I hadn't realized she coached Regoczy/Sallay. They were one of my favorite teams back in the day. Drobiazko/Vanagas worked with a coach named Roy Calloway during their eligible days. Was he any relation to Betty Calloway?

    And her 'third'
They remarried after Betty lost her second husband.
Roy is still alive (and kicking), age 93 (!)
