I hate this. So disappointing and sad. That's all.

When S/B went to worlds in 2010 they didn't win Bronze. Internationally S/B would have been inferior to S/S probably. Even if they hadn't won bronze they would have been 4th and S/B were not near 4th. There is lots of tak about the S/S and this being because of S/S and that seems probable to me.

Curious to see if a Chock/Bates partnership is in the work.

But how is splitting up with your partner and starting over again with a new partner (Evan skating with Madison, for example) going to hypothetically produce better results? Results that can compete with the Shibs?

The Shibs finished, what, 4th at Junior Worlds last year? And then they jump to 3rd at senior Worlds this year. Pretty amazing, yes, but it also indicates how fluid (comparatively) ice dance has become. With the Latin SD this season, who knows how the Shibs will do. I could imagine a situation where a non-split up Samuleson/Bates could have finished 3rd and 4th in their 2 falls GPs, and so could the Shibs. Then, going into Nationals, it's pretty close. I think the fall results will weigh more heavily on the Nats judges than the World bronze. But still, the Shibs are not unbeatable. Nor or Meryl and Charlie. Just ask Tanith/Ben about that kind of thing.

I HATE this news. I was so looking forward to finally seeing their American in Paris FD.

Going into the off season, US Ice Dancing looked so strong: D/W, S/S, C/Z, S/B and now it just looks like a mess.

I have a hard time believing that all these teams are running scared of a little healthy competition. It doesn't make sense.

I am on the other side of the Atlantic and let me just say that if a US dance team had to split, I'm really glad the split doesn't involve the Shibutanis.

Maybe this will answer your question.

Hmmm... not so sure. Cannuscio and Lorello had higher scores that Lichtman and Copely last season... Wingle and McKernan are working very hard to make a push this season. If Chock and Bates are together, then they will be a factor for pewter this season, I would imagine.

A new team of two talented people could just start fresh. Past results can be baggage to the team and judges. It could just be that spending so much time off frayed the S/B team a lot and they lost drive to compete together but it could be their results weren't at a S/S level. If Ice Dance is so fluid that S/S could win bronze maybe it is also so fluid that a hypothetical C/B team could win bronze.

But is Madison really a better ice dancer than Emily? It just doesn't seem like a trade up, so to speak.

It seems like a trade down for him. I always thought Emily was a strong ice dancer. I hate this break-up. I'm going to really miss Samuelson/Bates.

I think of all the splits this year, this one makes me the saddest.

Their American in Paris FD will be another program I wish I could have seen, along with the unseen Cirque du Soleil Christopher Dean program that Silverstein & Pekarek were supposed to do prior to their split.

What a shame, feel so bad especially for Emily, hope she'll find a better partner soon.

Cannuscio and Lorello skated seniors, right? They have four lifts in the free dance while juniors have three.

Cannuscio & Lorello finished 6th at 2011 Nationals in Senior Ice Dance, just a little less than two points behind Lynn & Logan.

I really like their skating and think they have a great deal of potential.
Congratulations 2014 World Ice Dance Champions Anna Cappellini & Luca Lanotte!!!
