Rinks in Western Mass?
i am not sure if this is posted in the correct place. anyhow, i am wondering if anyone knows of rinks within reasonable distance from amherst, ma? (other than the umass mullins center which is now closed through august.)
thanks so much!
I don't know which of these are open in the summer. I don't know if they offer public ice/freestyle sessions. I know nothing about these rinks at all. But you could try the Alfond Arena at Eaglebrook School in Deerfield, Collins Moylan Arena in Greenfield, Cyr Arena in Springfield, Deerfield Academy Skating Rink in Deerfield, Lossone Rink at Williston Northampton School in Easthampton, the Orr Rink at Amherst College, Smead Ice Arena in Springfield.
There is also a major training center in Simsbury, CT, which is maybe an hour plus from Amherst. That's a "real" rink, open all year, with some good coaches.
I used to love skating at Amelia park in Westfield, Mass. The rink's not really accessible without a car, but the ice was always great and the daytime public skating sessions were nice and empty.
The Little Sun Valley SC has freestyle sessions at the Olympia in West Springfield, MA, and the Western Mass FSC has sessions at Smead Arena in Springfield.
One in Greenfield, one in Holyoke, one in Springfield.
There's a rink in Pittsfield, MA: http://www.pittsfieldfsc.com/Directions.html and a USFS club: http://www.pittsfieldfsc.com/
There's also a rink in Brattleboro, VT, and as of a few years ago, at least, they had the NICEST people on their weekday adult session (open only during the winter).
