Tips/Hints for a Change Edge Sit Spin?
Skater Daughter is trying her hardest, but not quite getting something.
She's trying it from a low back cannonball right now (since that's the spin in her program, eventually out of death drop), but maybe best to attempt it from a higher "regular" back sit spin for the time being?
Anything anyone can recommend to try to facilitate the change and hold it without completely tumbling over every time?
Other than practice, practice, practice.
Now, I am curious to know why she would be attempting this change of edge in the spin, as it won't get her any additional levels.
Anyways, I try to think of spinning more on the middle of the blade, so shifting the weight a LITTLE back (not too much) on the blade might help during the change of edge.
Uh oh! I must be on the wrong track with this and counting the levels wrong. Let me do a quick refresher on spin levels. Sorry for any confusion.

Ahh, no worries, double check the rules for sure, they changed it just recently (because it used to be allowed like 2 years ago, but the COE is deemed too easy from the back sit to the forward sit).

COE only counts on the forward sit, as of the post-Olympics changes. The forward sit COE is generally the hardest one for most skaters, especially since it must be done in a true sit spin and that definition has become stricter as well. There are always those who are exceptions and find the sit easiest, of course, but most skaters get the COE on camels (both of which still count) first.

So, for death drop - 8 rev cannonball, adding a back tuck or broken leg add a level? I always get confused as to what positions are front variations vs. side variations.
And you're right, I do see more camel change edge (she's working on that, as well, with some success and quite a few nose-dives.)
We'll see what happens with the front sit COE. On one hand, yes, it'll be tough. OTOH, I know there are so many sit position variations we see all the time, it might be an eye-catcher if she could get proficient and add it to her "arsenal" without it looking really wonky. :-)

Yes, I believe that would work, but you must be very careful here, as long as she stays on the same foot, it is good, but later on if she decides to do a sit change sit, just know that you will only get a maximum of 2 levels per foot.

However, I think this gets slightly less points (someone double check) than a change foot sit spin lvl 4, so if she decides to turn it into a sit change sit because of the rules in a short program, or because it's too difficult to get all the levels on the back leg, or for whatever other reason, and she changes feet to a forward sit, be wary that only the death drop and cannonball will get levels and the other 2 levels must be gained on the forward sit.
Also, remember that once you've used a difficult variation, you can no longer use it again in another spin in the same program (i.e. since you've used your back cannonball, you cannot use it again in another spin, EVEN if it is a forward cannonball). So you really have to think about what she can do in her other spins as well, and yea, all these new rules are crazy, I'm glad my coach is a technical specialist, lol.
