From the previews last night, it seems as they've dispensed with the "visit at home" reveal. If that is indeed the case, I'm glad.

You mean, you didn't think she danced in her solo? I loved it.

That said, the little I saw of her hip hop was rather bad, IMO.

I would have much preferred to see more of the dancers actually dancing instead of poor Ryan, Ryan, Ryan. She bores me and annoys me at the same time.

I like Ryan fine, but they definitely give her too much screen time.

I guess they owe Ryan something for that horrible home visit last year. I agree that I'm thrilled they got rid of that aspect of the show - it was just painful.

So many things to comment on.

I kept waiting for Robin Antin's lips to bust out and dance a duet.

While I greatly appreciate Natalia Mallory and she's downright skinny compared to Donielle from season two, she simply isn't good enough for this show. She's being manipulated just like Ryan was the season Evan made the show. Natalia got a pass on the contemporary round? Gimme a break! They need her for the big sister vs sister drama when it comes down to the last spot.

Alexis is a very nice dancer, but she's a million miles behind Jeanine. She should have given herself another year before trying out. She has potential, but auditioning now wasn't a wise move.

It scares me how much young dancers hang all their hopes on this show. It's great to have something like this, but when that guy stood there saying, "I don't want to go home," it made me feel a bit sick. Even if you make the show you could be out week one. If you want to be a dancer, you need a life plan.

I have no memory of her solo

But I do recall the bit of hip hop and I thought she was going to get cut after that

In general the coverage of dancing was lame. Way too much time on Cryin Ryan and the Sisters. And they need to stop showing us the judges during the dances - or at least do a split screen or something! But they seemed to save some money by showing us the same stock shot of Robin over and over again - at least I hope that's what they did, cause other wise it means that woman is so plastic and botoxed that she's immobile.

I agree with Jeanine 2.0 not going through but I liked Alexis - she took the critiques very well and I suspect she'll make it to the top 20 in another season if she chooses to re-audition.

That was DC's big "human interest" story last week -- his pregnant girl friend and him becoming a father. Cat even asked him if it was "planned".

was it at the beginning of the episode? I came in a few minutes late. I do recall Nigel mentioning the police baton later and wondering what the heck he was talking about. I also remember the red outfit, but only in brief clips of dance montages.

Yes, she was one of the very first solos. The red dress clip they showed several times, but that was very different from her outfit at the beginning.

ETA: I found a clip of what you missed -- Iveta's solo from last night.

Yeah, it was at the very beginning.

That's not what I took from DC's reaction -- rather that he didn't want to go home because he felt that he had failed and let people down -- it was more a feeling of shame at not measuring up to what he had hoped to achieve.

I took it to mean that he was counting on the show as a way to support his family. BAD move on his part.

I'm not sure I would say it was a "bad move" -- just not very realistic for guaranteed success, if that was his plan. There wasn't much (if anything) on what he was doing in LA job-wise, but I don't think that he sacrificed a job with a great career path to go to Vegas for SYTYCD.

Wasn't he the one who admitted to Cat that he and his young girlfriend had planned their pregnancy? It seemed like he was worried that their parents would be mad. He probably has been thinking he'd be able to support his son by being on SYTYCD and now he's got to go home and tell them he doesn't know how he's going to support his kid or himself.

You must have missed Iveta because there is no way you would have forgotten it. It pretty much explains why the producers kept her in despite the lame hip-hop. And, unlike with DC, her solo would get her, um, some kind of dancing job, if she didn't make the top 20.

I thought they really overdid the coverage of Natasha and she'll probably realize when she sees it on tv that she got through for tv drama purposes, not for her dancing. But, she is an appealing personality and I really do like Sasha's dancing.

The stripper worthy routine aside (and my personal belief that she's at least 35), Iveta is an incredible dancer. They've often put forward a hip hop dancer who did okay in ballroom -- anyone remember Comfort and Joshua's foxtrot -- because the object is to find people who can at least be decent across the genres. That's why the BEST b boy or girl might not make it, but an okay b boy will because he or she can reasonably do all the genres. Iveta's hip hop was okay. That was enough to demonstrate she can at least give hop hop a decent attempt on the show.

As a former actor, I have to disagree. You go to every audition that you can... you never know when you are going to get work. The more auditions, the better you get. This is a pressure cooker, and it is a fantastic way for her to understand how to prepare for bigger auditions and for coming seasons. I think she handled herself beautifully, but she wasn't ready for the competition performance wise. Besides, we all know her now, so if she improves a lot over the next year, then she will garner a lot of support.

Iveta's solo was genius. The reason she got cut in previous seasons is that she was too good to be fodder, but not Hollywood enough. By showing them that she can be sexy, she put herself into the running as a serious ballroom candidate. And for the record, she is turning 31 later this month, so she is eligible for the show. I would hazard a guess that she is doing the show in the hopes of turning the heads of the folks at Dancing with the Stars. Who cares? I want to see her go far so that she can dance with Pasha or whoever they get to be the Ballroom specialist.
