He had a good long life...
I would have been here sooner, but the bus kept stopping for other people to get on it. - Sheldon Cooper, The Big Bang Theory

Sooo sad
DH - and that's just my opinion
What an iconic figure he was.
He, his late son; and his brother (Peter Graves) are re-united, now.
RIP.
Didn't know he was the brother of Peter Graves.:
Neither did I. What a talented family that was.
May he rest in peace.![]()

Gunsmoke was a show that everybody watched in its heyday. It was a Saturday night ritual. There were some very good stories; not always your typical western. I guess all of its most famous cast--Arness, Amanda Blake, Milburn Stone and Dennis Weaver are gone now. Very sad for those of us who grew up with the show.
For some reason, I thought he had died many years ago. I guess not.
His other famous role is probably "The Thing." My favorite movie of his is "Big Jim McLain" starring Arness and John Wayne as a couple of FBI agents hunting down Commies in Hawaii. It's a real guilty pleasure for me.
RIP, big guy.![]()
Am I there yet?
RIP Jim.
I thought he was already gone also.
Peter only died last year, didn't he?
RIP Peter also.
Gunsmoke was must see TV for my late grandfather. RIP 'Matt Dillon'.
RIP. Gunsmoke was one of the best ever. He was it's anchor for 20 years.
NJL
He also had a very small role in John Wayne's movie, "Hondo". I can't remember if it is Wayne or Ward Bond's character in the film that decks Arness.
He also lost a daughter during his own lifetime..What an iconic figure he was.
He, his late son; and his brother (Peter Graves) are re-united, now.
RIP.
Marshall Matt Dillon was one of the very few authority figures who never, ever let us. I shall miss him so.........![]()
RIP, James Arness.
