My guess would be that Jonathan is about 5'7'' or 5'8''. He's also not in the Detroit area anymore.

That, and his upper body isn't exactly built for pairs. Dance would be a smoother transition for someone like him. I'm sure he could 'buff up' enough to do some lifts, but overhead lifts when you're not that tall would take a bit more training than, say, a serpentine lift when it comes to the strength level required.

I would love to see Jonathan Cassar switch to ice dance. I already think of him as a solo ice dancer in my head. Brooke Castile should come back for ice dance too...

Ooh -that would be quite a nice dance couple ! Tiffany Stiegler made the swtitch and did well with it; am sure Brooke could, too.

As I read this, it says to me 'I'm quitting pairs'

    That's how I read it.

And if so, I can't wait to find out who that new partner is.

From what I heard - Ethan was really bad for skaters, controlling and stuff. I don't know this for certain, but had heard it rumored. Even if not true, I don't think that an Ethan/Caitlin partnership would be a good one.

Any news (or even rumors/predictions) about who Caitlin may be having tryouts with?

Emily Samuelson's available. Maybe he should team up with her.

Well, we're in July at this point. How much time does Caitlin feasibly have to get a partner in order to skate this season??

Also, didn't she have a tryout with AJ Reiss over a month ago? That was never mentioned again AFAIK ...

    Is this viable?

Good time management Yuka or Jason probably only spend 1 - 1.5 hrs with the same skater a a time on the ice, and each work maybe about 10+ hours a day, and there are 7 days a week ....

To get a qualifying score via summer comps... very little time. To find someone and compete at Regionals, she's still got a month or two.

Pairs and dance teams qualify for Nationals via Sectionals in November (they skip Regionals in October). The USFS qualifying competition registration deadline is September 1, 2011.

Didn't Marly/Brubaker team up in July last year (or maybe even early August)? It is getting pretty late though...

Caitlin mentioned on Facebook today that she has "a new coach [she tweeted earlier that it's Johnny Johns in Canton, MI], a few tryouts coming up, and will be going to school."

I wish her all the best in her new location!
