I'm not so sure about studies of women consuming images intended as gay porn, or studies in the fields of psychology/sexology etc.
There's this: http://content.libida.com/gay-porn-a...en-who-love-it
But I can't find a link to the actual study
Oh yeah, Benson/Cabot has always been huge. There were so many shippers even the writers knew about it and would throw in little fanservice scenes. I used to remember what episodes they were in but I was a fan like 6 years ago.
And I wasn't even a shipper, I just couldn't avoid hearing about it

And yes, I've read the Benson/Cabot pairings. For some reason, they seem more believable than Stabler and Huang.
I'd much rather it be Stabler and Rex....
Delete. Wrong Thread.
The idea of romance between Dr. Bashir and Garan isn't as nearly out there as one between Stabler and Huang. For one thing, Bashir and Garan were friends in DS9 canon. Also, in the DS9 canon Garan did come on very strong to Bashir the first time they met. I wouldn't necessarily say he was hitting on him but his effusiveness and the way he intruded into Bashir's personal space obviously made the other man uncomfortable. After Garan left, Bashir had a "What the heck just happened?" expression.
Stabler and Huang isn't even on the top 100 of weird fanfic pairings I've seen.
Another popular one seems to be House/Wilson on House, MD. IIRC, there was also some Thirteen/Cutthroat Bitch shipping as well.

There is a whole genre in Japan devoted to fiction/manga for women who like man on man romance called "Yaoi"/"Boys Love".
To think that fun is simple fun, while earnest things are earnest, proves all too plain that neither one thou truthfully discernest.
