U.S. X-Factor Season One - Simon Cowell Confirms Paula Abdul As One Of The Judges

Joining Cowell and Abdul Are Antonio "L.A." Reid and Cheryl Cole

Guess the David Bowie rumours were just that...

Interesting last line of the article, however:

Despite Cowell's announcement, both Abdul and Cole are still in contract negotiations; Fox has yet to officially confirm their hiring.
It's official. I am madly in love with Meryl Davis.

Smartest move ever to put Abdul on the panel.

I can definitely do without Pussycat Doll host, but would love to see Paula again as a judge.

Not a big fan of Nicole Scherzinger but she was okay as a judge on The Sing Off.
OT - The Sing Off will be holding auditions soon - so glad it will be back.

Nicole hasn't released her solo album in the US yet, I guess it's going to coincide with X-Factor, as Simon will surely give her a promotional slot and hosting it is going to create a lot of publicity for her.

She was great as a guest judge btw. I'd have her on the panel over crazy Paula.

They should have had Ben Folds join the judges panel. He was really good as a judge on The Sing-Off. I liked him better than Nicole. Nicole wasn't bad. Just kind of forgettable.

I don't get the point of having Nicole host, though.

I like the guy who hosts VH-1's top 20 videos. Jim Shearer?

Cheryl Cole has been dropped from the U.S. version of the X-Factor as it's feared that U.S.'ers cannot understand English...

The exit factor: Britain's sweetheart dumped in US

...tabloid media say she lost her big break in part over fears American audiences wouldn't understand her regional accent or the phrases unique to her corner of Britain.
Cole speaks with what's known in the U.K. as a Geordie accent. Particular to Newcastle, many from the region use words such as "bairn" instead of "child," "hinny" instead of "woman," and "me" instead of "my." Intonation tends to rise at the end of sentences, while vowel sounds tend to shift in such as way that the word "brown" ends up sounding more like "brune."
I objected to Cole being on the show as no one on this side of the Atlantic has heard of her. Girls Aloud (Cole's former band) were never promoted in North America, and according to amazon.com, all of their CD's as well as Cheryl's CD's are "imports". I assume Cole is a client of Cowell's and he wanted to break her into the North American market, but to introduce her as a mentor/expert when no one here has heard of her was a strange move...

I like Nicole. Just heard this duet with Sting recently...I LOVE IT!!! I think it's from the first album that was never released, but I think it should be on her new album that'll be coming out...

Folds is still doing the Sing Off which will be expanded this year. Simon wouldn't want him because he's articulate and very music savey. He'd have made Simon look bad unlike Paula or Nicole.

I'm skipping all the bad audition shows and then see if it's worth watching. It definitely isn't worth skipping Modern Family to watch. Cowell apparently put up the 5 mil prize money himself. I'm sure he has some deal with Fox for reimbursement if the ratings = advertising dollars.

I've never watched the show, but I'll have to tune in tonight, because I went to school with family of one of the contestants. My older brother was the same year.

    Fingers crossed

Watching the first hour. This kid has a huge amount of poise for 13. And she sings well too.
