I was going to say that Jacob was doing okay with this song, but that note at the end sent the cats running.

When he controls the warble, he sounds fine.

My favorite performance by Jacob so far. Seems he's learning that less is more.

    Shut up, Randy.

OMFG, Randy, that was the only performance of Jacob's that I didn't hate, and Randy telling him to do the opposite! Die, Randy, Die

He has a natural vibrato in his voice. Its a love or leave it thing. I actually love it.

Shades of Paula making comments about singers that haven't even sung yet....when it was revealed they wrote their comments prior to the show. That was the night I quit paying attention to the judges and it was confirmed in the book about AI.

Randy has been telling him to do more, it is the producer who is telling Jacob to rein it in. Not Randy.

Oh, yeah, Scotty. I'll probably skip it.

    I just watched James.

The verses sounded awesome, but the chorus was weak and WHY did he have to jump up an octave later???? I think Muse is one of those uncoverable bands. Even when Adam Lambert did his cover of Starlight, I still prefer Muse's version. Matt Bellamy just has one of those epic voices.

Jacob is doing fine and he'll have contract after this season. He's received praise and had folks like Mary J, Chaka and Anita going to see him and offer support.

Casey covering Maroon 5 has the possibility to be brilliant. But I fear it will be

eta: I was wrong on both counts. It's just sort of meh. Not bad, not great.

I just think somewhere, a few years down the line, Casey is going to put out a jazz album. He'll be playing to packed concert halls and telling humorous anecdotes about how Jennifer Lopez gave him advice on musicianship.

He's not a pop star, no matter how much they try to shoe-horn him into that role.

Meh is right. I actually tuned out halfway through. It was probably one of his most solid vocals though. The arrangement just wasn't very engaging.

So, that was a pop song and he made it a rock song? WTF is she talking about?

Matt Bellamy emailed James and told him to try the chorus an octave higher, and (I think he said) that he would match it or some sort of mumble like that.

ITA w/ the poster who said the verses were great, but the chorus was not as good. He had some major pitch issues, as well, but so has everyone I've heard tonight.

Was anyone else during James' package when the other hamsters were snarking on the tail?

    *****

Haley - also one that was better during the verses as opposed to the chorus. I adore Rollin' In The Deep (the best breakup anthem of the past decade, easily) and was scared she was going to savage it. Up until the end when she started pulling all that melisma crap, it wasn't bad, but her pitch was all over the damn place whenever she started getting her Joplin on .

Jacob was meh. I just don't see the appeal.

Oh, and Scotty? Total snorefest. Glad he was called out on that shit.

Hey!! Randy said "sharp" I guess "pitchy" really is dead.

Casey kicked butt. Love me some Casey. Always surprise and good.

Loved J-lo's comment.. "Casey got soft lips".

And, a jazz singer won the best artist grammy this year. He's the only one I'd pay to see live. I'd buy Scotty's records, but I'd go see Casey, but I love jazz.

Why are we pretending the kiss was a surprise when Jennifer turned her head so he could reach her cheek well before the kiss?

Casey's inferior vocals shows up more and more as this season progresses...
