I was actually pleasantly surprised that tonight's performance didn't completely suck. Even so, the fact that she makes her living as a singer still makes me go . I so love her voice and accent when she talks though.

We all have our guilty pleasures. No shame in that. I actually love SOS and Pon De Replay. However, I find listening to more than one song of hers in a row to be migraine inducing, and some of her live performances have been .

Even VFTW has its limitations. They can't perform miracles.

BTW I love jazz & I think Haley sounded fantastic. Even Casey sounded good during the duets.

I really liked Paul last week when I tuned in, but thought last night's performance was bad. That was a terrible song choice for him, I'm not surprised he's gone after it.

but there wasn't much I particularly liked this week. Casey got it going eventually, but I didn't like the beginning of the song, Haley was embarrassing (had ANYONE on AI ever been able to sing Blondie without it being little more than a weak imitation?), Stefano was bad...I forgot about James and turned it off, but I just watched it and the guy is having FUN. Real metal? Nah...but he's got a voice, he's got personality and it's so enjoyable getting more than the usual AI pablum.

I don't know. There's a lot of money for Contempory Christian artists. His Live Like You're Dying album is nominated for a Billboard Music Award based on sales in that market. He's the only Idol who's nominated this year. There are as many concerts and album sales as other markets. They just aren't well known unless you're interested in that genre. I had a former student who's husband was in a Christian rock band and they did very well financially.

Let's hope Jive Records views finances the same way you do!

I totally agree with you about James. I think the difference with Adam is that he showed more versatility, he had a stronger voice, and he had a more interesting personality and was more charismatic and articulate (as least IMO). As you said, Adam ended up not doing rock (though he did something he wanted to do). If last night is any indiation, Jimmy Iovine has no interest in making a heavy metal album with James. I have no idea what they will do with him other than maybe something more in the Daughtry or Cook line of "rock."

And speaking of Cook, he's going to be on next week and releasing a single.

I just listened to the snippet of Cook's single on mjs. It sounds catchy enough, but I swear I hear Taylor Swift banjo guitars.

Yeah, I really, really hope that James does not do Daughtry/Cook rock. Nothing against Daughtry or Cook either, but we have enough of that from this show and it's not going to add anything new to the music scene. I think Adam was vocal about his love for dance and pop ("I wanna see Katy Perry!!!") early enough that most of his fans accepted that was where he wanted to go and that was what he wanted to do, but James? I always got the impression that it's hard rock/metal for him.

That would be awesome. James could do "Welcome to the Black Parade."

That would be a GREAT choice.

Actually, I read on Billboard.biz's yearly review that out of all the songs that hit the top of the charts last year, only 6 didn't have autotune. Three of them were Rihanna. Go figure. (The others were Bruno Mars and Eminem.) I also love Rihanna...She's not THAT bad.

Well then those must have been the only 3 songs Rihanna ever recorded without autotune. I am not hating on her but she uses it a lot. I did love her tonight. I giver her a lot of credit for working on her voice AFTER she made it because it SO MUCH BETTER than when she came on the scene.

A friend told me that Rihanna is really hit or miss when it comes to live performances. She tends to be awful at big award shows, but sometimes, she's sounds very close to her recording. Her X-Factor performance of "What's My Name" is one of the latter.
