Article about 22-year-old Adriana DeSanctis' long journey back after qualifying for the JGP Final in 2002 when skating for the USA (an Oct. 2003 JGP was the last time she competed internationally for Team USA) to making the 2011-12 Canadian national team with her 5th place finish at Canadians: http://www.thebarrieexaminer.com/Art...aspx?e=3150459
DeSanctis landed in Barrie a decade ago, when her father was transferred from Dallas to New York City. DeSanctis and her mom moved to Barrie while her dad remained working in the U.S., coming to Barrie to be with his family whenever he could.
...
Her immediate goal is to represent Canada at Skate Canada in Mississauga this year. And she'd love to be on the Canadian team going to the 2014 Olympics in Russia.
"And, one day, I would like to be Canadian champion," she says.

A little update on Paige Lawrence & Rudi Swiegers from today’s print edition of the Brandon Sun: Virden skaters gear up in Florida
“We come down here every year to skate with Lyndon Johnston and we’re down here for a month because there is really no ice back home for the training that we need,” Lawrence said. “But we will be back training in Virden in the new arena on July 4.”The arena Paige refers to is Virden’s new $17.5 million dollar multi-purpose recreation centre that houses a curling rink, fitness centre and a 1200 seat NHL size arena. Their old rink was difficult to train programs on because of its odd size, so I imagine they’re pretty excited about their new home.Lawrence, who studies at Brandon University, and Swiegers have made the Canadian team, with their first summer skating competition is slated for July 29-31 at the 2011 Indy Challenge in Indianapolis. “We’re kind of waiting to hear about our international assignments, so we are looking forward to that, but our first competition will be in Indy,” Lawrence said.Looking forward to great things from them this season!
