Unfortunately, unlike the Torino lineup hardly any of the top teams are over 25....I miss that we no longer see dramatic divas in ice dance anymore

Heh... I'm with you there. I remember watching the Latin OD from 2000 (which they did as a response to the popularity of Ricky Martin/Latin Pop music at the time) with my ex-bf, who has been playing Latin percussion since the age of 5 (he's 41). He basically ripped apart just about every dance team's music. I must say that the music from the 2006 OD's was a huge improvement, because on the whole it was more authentic and less "pop".

Nope, she'll still be 17 ( born April 25, 1994). Somehow I doubt that'll be a problem though.

When did the ISU last chose Latin dances for the OD theme? It seems as if it's been a while.

Lol, not quite--I'm the opposite. I HATE rinky-dink Blackpool Latin music, which might have authentic tempos but is painful to listen to (we mock the truly HORRIBLE stuff that's used for test dances in skating like Silver Samba--let's party like it's 1959! Worst. Samba. EVER.) And I have limited tolerance for "authenic" as in street Latin music (which is meant for dances like Cuban son or salsa anyway.) Doesn't appeal at all. Increasingly compmetitive Latin is going to modern Latino/Spanish-language pop or American pop, most of which can be adjusted to be the right mpm for competition and is less grating. It's hard to feel the music when you'd rather plug your ears.

And no matter what they use for music, skating just doesn't lend itself to LOOKING like Latin--the feet are totally opposite (Latin involves heeled shoes for men and women because all your weight's on the ball), the defining leg line is STRAIGHT with knee locked, there's lots of sharp stops and starts and turns, and except for Paso and Samba, the dances don't travel. So it never ends up looking like Latin to me at all.

My choice is not on the list:

I am most looking forward to the end of the season when I will not have to see any Latin SD's for a while.

There is nothing I'm looking forward to-well, maybe Lakhok's dress a little bit, but other than that, nothing.
