    Skate-To-Learn, May 1, 2011

We are three high school students and figure skaters who are producing "Skate-To-Learn," a skating exhibition benefiting two charities focusing on after-school programs for children--Brooklyn Ice and Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey. The show will take place on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at the Ice House in Hackensack, New Jersey and we'd love it if any of you could attend (or donate money to our charities even if you can't come).

We have an amazing cast, featuring 2009 US National Senior Men's Silver Medalist Brandon Mroz, 2011 US National Senior Ladies Pewter Medalist Agnes Zawadzki, 2009 World Junior Pairs Bronze Medalists Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir and 4-time National Gold Medalist Parker Pennington, who is also the Artistic Director of the show. And we will be announcing more phenomenal skaters next week, so keep an eye out for updates.

As teenagers, we know how important it is to have worthwhile after-school activities for children and both of our charities fit the bill. Boys & Girls Clubs sponsor programs for children emphasizing character-building, sport and fitness, and academics and much of the money raised by the show will go the Club in Lodi/Hackensack, which has recently opened two new locations near the Ice House. Brooklyn Ice, which was founded in 2005 by Violet Eagen, provides free skating lessons and dance, drama and creative writing classes in the off-season for children living near Brooklyn's Prospect Park. The rink the program uses is being renovated and when it reopens in 2012, Ms. Eagen is hoping to expand the program. Last year, two of us co-produced CitySkate, a skating benefit that raised over $15,000 for Brooklyn Ice and we're hoping that this year's show will be equally successful.

So, please come to the show and have a great time. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students/seniors and $20 for a ticket and a Meet and Greet with the skaters, and you can order tickets and find out more about the show at our website www.skate-to-learn.org.

Sounds like a great show! Unfortunately, I'm out of geographic range for attending, but I'll pass the info on to a friend who lives in northern NJ. I hope the show is a great success!

Thanks so much Debbie! We also have a number of top local skaters appearing in the show, including the Ice House's own Dalia Rivkin, the US Juvenile Ladies Gold Medalist and Liam Roumila, the US Juvenile Boys Silver medalist, both of whom are really really talented and also a lot of fun to watch.
