Unfortunately I know many Scottish people who have never heard of them - the sad reality of skating in GB is that it doesn't matter if the person you speak to hails from Eng, Scot, Wales or NI, the vast majority of people have never heard of ANY of our competitive skaters. Skating might as well have stopped happening when T&D hung up their skates

Yeah, Torvill & Dean unintentionally killed off skating in the UK. I mean, how could anybody follow them?

Alot of people in Northern Ireland actually know of Jenna-always suprises me! They may not be able to tell you her name but they know the girl from Coleraine who went to the Olympics. Although I suppose its possible that the people I talk to pick up on skating because they hear it constantly from me!

But yes, I find it very sad that people can name everybody who has ever appeared on DOI but great skaters like the Kerr's get no recognition at all. In that way I do feel T/D 'unintentionally killed of skating in the UK' but thats a different rant!

They were one of the few couples that kept my interest in ice dance. Although it's sad they're retiring, cheers to them for being the best UK couple since T&D.

Just saw this news. I am shocked and saddened they are not staying on until next year to skate in Sheffefield. But I thank them for bringing me so many great memories with their programs. I wish them both good luck.

Although it has been printed in a couple of newspapers, we hadn't actually - as yet - officially announced our retirement from competitive skating.
However, we did indicate to the Scottish media that Worlds would have been our last competition and although we were waiting until the end of the season to say anything for sure, we now feel we should say ourselves that we are not planning on continuing competing next season.
Ours has been an amazing career and we feel very fortunate to have so many fantastic memories from our 10 years of competing together. We will of course continue to skate in shows and feel excited at the freedom this will allow us in making up (hopefully!) entertaining routines!
As everyone has probably guessed already - skating for a great audience has always been the most fun part of this sport for us. We have always appreciated the great warmth we have felt from people all over the world and this has always given us great energy to perform. It is what we will miss the most!

So Thank You to everyone who has supported us over the years - you have helped give us an amazing competitive career that we have enjoyed almost every minute of.
We will be involved in skating still for a long time to come as it has obviously become a huge part of our lives and we still love it!
So we look forward to performing again soon - just in a less stressful environment!

I must admit I was never a big fan of their skating .They do seem really warm and friendly people and actually you can see that they really enjoy performing . I wish them all the best for their future' they will be great show skaters .I much preferred their ODS to their FDS but last night I watched their Matrix FD and really love it.

It's hard to express how much I love these two and how much I will miss them. They're my favourite European dance team at the moment, without them and F/S the Euro dance field is gonna be so empty and uninteresting...

I hope to see them in a show some day. After all, entertaining people and having fun with the audience is what they do best

Goodbyes are so hard. I loved Sinead and John. They brought great joy to many fans. It's funny how once you get REALLY into this sport, there are so many lower ranked (as in not World medalists) teams and individuals you come to enjoy, look forward to seeing, root for, and miss when they leave. They had a marvelous career and garnered many, many fans.

I still can't believe this. I was hoping that at least they'd have stuck around for Sheffield.

Besides all of the other reasons cited, I'm sure that they saw the handwriting on the wall, with hot up-and-coming teams (new Russians, new Americans) nipping at their heels. They probably figured that it's best to quit after a strong podium finish in Euros, to not diminish their resume's marketability, so to speak. Still, their fun style, energy and charisma will be missed.
