I'm starting my annual thread for club and benefit shows (not tours) in the U.S. and Canada for people to publicize and share information in one place. I've also included links to pre-existing threads in Great Skate Debate (GSD) for these events/shows.

Ice Works sent out an email last week about their show April 1st/2nd at 7pm. It's called Broadway on Blades. Headliners are Faiella/Scali (injured?) and Bonacorsci/Mager. Plus other US and international skaters.

Besides featuring great choreography and music, Spotlight on Ice serves as a showcase for local skating talent. Barbie Long will perform the role of Dorothy Gale in the Wizard of Oz. Barbie is the Upper Great Lakes Novice Ladies Regional Champion as well as U.S. National Novice Ladies Silver Medalist. Another talented local skater, Gracie Gold, will perform as Sandy in Grease. Gracie is the Upper Great Lakes Junior Ladies Champion and placed sixth at the Midwestern Sectionals. Also performing are two up-and-coming skaters, Lauren Marines and Connor Icenogle, who both represented the Upper Great Lakes Region in the Junior Championships in Salt Lake City.

As this year’s guest skater, Springfield is lucky to welcome 2010 Olympic competitor and two-time U.S. Men’s National Champion, Jeremy Abbott. Skating since the age of two, Jeremy made his first U.S. Nationals appearance in 2002 and won his first national title in 2005. Jeremy qualified for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver by winning his second national title earlier last year. Jeremy has made numerous TV appearances. He’s a big deal.

Just learned that Detroit Skating Club's 12th annual ice show, titled "A Magical Evening on Ice" this year, is scheduled to be held June 9-12, 2011, in Bloomfield Hills, MI. Bleacher ($15 each) and Gold ($25 each) seats will go on sale, May 23 at 9:00 am in the DSC main office.

Also, the US Athletic Foundation is planning a benefit exhibition show on August 12, 2011, called "An Evening on Ice." It will be held at the Pickwick Ice Center in Burbank, California: http://www.usathleticfoundation.org/events.html

Ice Dreams at the Edge Arena, Bensenville, IL on April 30th. Starring Johnny Weir, Brandon Mroz, Agnes Zawadzki and Gregory and Petukhov plus local skaters. I believe I read somewhere that part of the proceeds were being given to the Japanese Red Cross.

The Minto Skating Club in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada is 106 years old this year.

From 1926 to 1967 the Minto Follies show was an annual event and it ran again intermittently until 1997. The women and girls who skated in the shows were named the "Folliettes" and, in addition to the annual shows, they were invited to skate in a variety of locations outside of Ottawa. In fact, in 1952, Mayfair Magazine praised them as "the first and best chorus on ice".

On May 7th the first ever Minto Folliette reunion is taking place and the events will include a recreated Minto Follies show at the Club. The show will include Minto skaters of all levels (and ages). Tickets (at $20 for adults & $15 for children under 12) will be available from the Minto Skating Club office at 2571 Lancaster Road, Ottawa.
