The Europeans usually don´t travel with tours, they organize the trips themselves. The (5) Worlds trips I Have been - all in Europe, though - have not been by tours.

So, Celine82 is NOT stupid, vice versa.

About voting from Hersh via Cinquanta:
Cinquanta said the ISU Council will choose the new site in an email or fax vote Wednesday.

``We have outstanding candidacies,'' Cinquanta said by telephone.
Cinquanta dismissed the idea that Putin's support and his statement regarding the ease of handling the expenses have made the outcome a foregone conclusion.

``We are awarding the championship, not selling it,'' Cinquanta. ``And with the ISU (Council), you never know.''

I asked Cinquanta if he thought Russia is at least the favorite now.

``There are no favorites,'' he said.

Phil updates his "Impale" story with more quotes from $peedy:

Maybe now that Piseev is no longer the President of the Russian Federation, the old 'Alfa Bank Account' withdrawals no longer take place? Oops - I almost forgot, Piseev still is in charge...but with a new title.

More Speedy gems from the ^article:

``We are awarding the championship, not selling it,'' Cinquanta. ``And with the ISU (Council), you never know.''

I asked Cinquanta if he thought Russia is at least the favorite now.

``There are no favorites,'' he said.

Then referring to the International Olympic Committee vote for the 2016 Summer Olympics, he added with a laugh, `` ``For me, Chicago was the favorite.''

Chicago lost in the first round.

Nice to see all the offers roll in. I think the athletes will be happy that there WILL be a Worlds, and that it WILL be this spring -- the location is probably not of nearly so great an importance.

BWAHAHAHAHA And next week there is a lovely bridge that he would like to give you a great deal on.

``And with the ISU (Council), you never know.''
That's right, because they won't know how to vote until he tells them.

Isn't it kinda counter-productive for the US to submit 2 locations? Do they vote for a country or for a specific location?

I believe that English is NOT pani's first language so most of us cut the poster some slack. She would not be the first - nor last - to misspell someone's name. It's usually not a big deal to most of us.

I guess Lake Placid is unlikely? Would be great though, given that it's a 5-6 hr drive from where I live I could go at least for 1-2 events.
Am so happy that there will be a Worlds

``We are awarding the championship, not selling it,'' Cinquanta.

Piseev no longer digs into his Alfa Bank account, does he? Ha-ha-ha!!!

Folks, let's be careful what we wish for. Imagine a situation where the ISU become "indebted" to Piseev? Lordie!

That said...I'm happy to have a Worlds anywhere....just not a situation where would be indebted to proven crooks from the past. It's important that the Tech Specialists/Callers not be 'Piseev Selected,' for ex.

I am at someone suggesting that tours are cheaper and most people travel to Worlds in tour groups.
I never join tour groups because I can always find a better, much more cheaper and more agreeable way myself.
Yes, sometimes it takes a bit of organizing and hassle which some people seem to be to spoiled to but don't impose your standards on the rest of us.

since I was surprised by this, I just went on www.booking.com and checked available rooms in Moscow from 24 April until 1 May (dates chosen just for coincidence ), and I found that there are 4stars hotels that charge about 500 euros/6 nights, not so far from the city center....IMO it's not so much, I could think of it (if I hadn't to work this period ).
Visa is far more expensive from my POW, but I'm very spoiled because I'm used to travel in the Schengen area

Who said that? Not I. Tour groups are THE most expensive way to travel, which is why I no longer do it. A lot of older North Americans (US and Canadians) still prefer traveling in groups because they 'hold their hands' and take care all of the hassles. (And they like to sit in the seats that are shown on TV so that "Neighbor Bob" can see them!) I prefer to save money but most times when I go to a Worlds most Americans with whom I talk happen to come in organized tour groups. I agree that more Europeans prefer traveling solo.
