Are the Japanese skaters all safe? I think Yuzuru Hanyu is from Sendai.

The coverage from Japan looks awful. My thoughts are with everyone affected by the earthquake.

The ISU is in close contact with the Japanese Skating Federation (JSF). Based on a first on-site assessment by the JSF we have been informed that the Yoyogi stadium remains in order and the JSF advised that everything will be ready to hold the Championships as foreseen. We will of course continue to monitor the situation closely in cooperation with the JSF and inform of any developments.

the atmosphere of competitions wouldn't be likely to go along with Japan's current tragic situation...

Distraction can be very helpful. Especially if one or more of the Japanese skaters triumph over this tragedy. That could be very memorable.

If the location be changed, I think it's a good thing for that way.

but in Tokyo? they're estimating countless damages and huge efforts to rebuild the area, and with aftershocks that are awaiting for the next few weeks, it's really dangerous to keep going with the event being held in Tokyo.

I am praying for all people in Japan, that is such a tragedy

I hope Worlds can help people to forget, atleast for a while.
It would be nice from ISU if they could make some kind exhibition and the profit could go to affected areas...

Maybe. But programs like MJ medley, sassy Latins, tasteless pop songs, and maybe even, Pink Panther, would be really inappropriate IMO. If I heard anyone playing these kinds of music just two weeks after such a tragedy in my country (there's a serious earthquake in China in 2008 which caused nearly 70,000 of deaths), I would cut his/her throat.

Today Show is reporting the "Tokyo is paralyzed" right now. Not sure how JFS can say so emphatically that Worlds will continue--I would be very hesitant.

There, as usual, will be aftershocks to this quake. That puts everyone at additional danger. For the safety of all, I can't see worlds proceeding under these conditions.

Worlds will go ahead if infrastructure remains in tact in Tokyo and that seems to be the case. Japanese people are nothing if not resilient and have been through quite a few devastating earthquakes. It is a fact of life if you live there.
